「アフロ民藝」作家: シアスター・ゲイツ場所: 森美術館(六本木) 会期: 2024年04月24日（土）- 2024年09月01日（土） ⭐️無料音声ガイド付きアートに精通していなくても誰しもが見入ってしまう。五感で楽しめる展覧会。文化とは。アイデンティティとは。自分を振り返り、考えさせられる展覧会でした。以下、美術館サイトから引用世界が注目するブラック・アーティスト、待望の日本初個展！陶芸、建築、音楽で日本文化と黒人文化の新しいハイブリッドを描く、壮大なインスタレーションシアスター・ゲイツ（1973年シカゴ生まれ）は、米国シカゴのサウス・サイド地区を拠点とし、彫刻と陶芸作品を中心に、建築、音楽、パフォーマンス、ファッション、デザインなど、メディアやジャンルを横断する活動で国際的に高く評価されています。彫刻と都市計画の教育を受けたゲイツは2004年、愛知県常滑市で陶芸を学ぶために初来日し、以来20年以上にわたり、陶芸をはじめとする日本文化の影響を受けてきました。日本やアジア太平洋地域での印象深い出会いや発見、そして米国ミシシッピとシカゴにルーツを持つアフリカ系アメリカ人として生きてきた経験が、彼の創作の礎となっています。アーティストとして文化的ハイブリディティ（混合性）を探求してきたゲイツは、アメリカの公民権運動（1954-1968年）の一翼を担ったスローガン「ブラック・イズ・ビューティフル」と日本の「民藝運動」の哲学とを融合した、独自の美学を表す「アフロ民藝」という言葉を生み出しました。ゲイツの日本初、そしてアジア最大規模の個展となる本展は「神聖な空間」「ブラック・ライブラリー＆ブラック・スペース」「ブラックネス」「年表」「アフロ民藝」の各セクションで構成され、これまでの代表作のみならず、本展のための新作を含む日本文化と関係の深い作品などを紹介します。これまで多数派の声のみが取り上げられてきたことが問い直され、視点の多様化が求められる昨今、グローバルなアートシーンでは、第一線で活躍する黒人アーティストたちの表現に見られる多層的な経験が注目されています。黒人の歴史は、日本人の一般的な知識としては馴染みが薄いかもしれませんが、本展はゲイツの多角的な実践を通し、世界で注目を集め続けるブラック・アートの魅力に迫ります。同時に、手仕事への称賛、人種と政治への問い、文化の新たな融合などを謳う現代アートの意義を実感する機会となるでしょう。 #シアスターゲイツ #TheasterGates #森美術館 #moriartmuseum
