Kingdom Stages at Crail…. This one was a bit last minute! Supposed to be lending JIG to my brother for an event but as James was ill I decided I might as well do another event myself! First time driving at Crail and it was a great event… very challenging at times due to the weather - slippy conditions and a lot of standing water. I had 14 year old Hayden Brown co-driving for me in his first ever rally. Well done to Hayden who learnt a lot and improved every stage - I hope you enjoyed your first rally and that we see you back out on the stages soon. Massive thanks to Neil Buckley and Paul for looking after us all day and getting us up and running after a starter issue just before stage 3. What an incredible week at Jersey Rally! After recceing on Wednesday and Thursday, the rally kicked off on Friday afternoon. We had a great start and were sitting 3rd in class after the first couple of stages, before losing out on SS3 due to the car in front getting stuck at a hairpin. I was a bit more cautious on the first couple of night stages but we were still holding on to 3rd in class after SS8. We were going well on SS9 before I missed my braking point which put us off head on into a wall with considerable damage and we retired from the Friday part of the rally. The G&M Mechanical Services team then worked through the night to get the car repaired ready to be re-scrutineered for the Trophy Rally on the Saturday. I can’t thank the guys enough for working through the night so we could get restarted after travelling so far! Massive thanks to everyone who offered to help out and to Sion Humphreys who lent us his workshop late on Friday night. We ended up only missing one stage and took part in the Trophy Rally on the Saturday, finishing 10th overall. Jersey Rally has been on my bucket list for years and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Really technical stages and low road mileage made for a really enjoyable rally (warm weather was very welcome too!) Massive thanks to Emma Morrison for sitting in with me, we had such a laugh and she was spot on with the notes. What an incredible few days in Dunoon for this year’s @dunoon_presents Argyll Rally 🤩 Delighted to have come away with 3rd in class and 43rd overall. Friday night was tough in the dark and rain but we put in some solid times and then were able to push on Saturday. JIG is finally back! After 8 months it was incredible to finally get back behind the wheel of my own car at the weekend following a rebuild after our crash on the Galloway Hills in September. We headed south to Cornwall for the two-day TSH Stages to check the car before the Jim Clark. It was my first trip to the venue at Portreath and it was more than worth the long drive! Took it easy on the first few stages to get used to the car and check everything was ok, then we were able to push on and put in some competitive times. It was a great venue with a good mix of tight, technical parts, fast corners and long straights. I was delighted to finish 3rd in class and joint 19th overall on my first event back in the car. Huge thanks to Emma Morrison for volunteering to co-drive at such short notice and making such a long journey with me! She did a fantastic job on the notes and we had a good laugh along the way. Massive thanks to @colin.minton.14 at @ignitionmotorsport who rebuilt the car and ran it at the weekend - couldn’t be happier with how the car drove and really appreciate the late nights him and his team have put in to get it finished! Reflecting on a busy 2022…busiest rally year to date! 17 rallies completed - 8 in JIG with @martinhaggett and @marc.fowler competing in the @scottishrallychampionship and at the McRae Rally Challenge at @knockhillracingcircuit. 9 in the co-driver’s seat with @ollie_odonovan, @jmorris792 and @caro87stunts in the Hyundai R5, Fiesta R5, MG3 and @paul_sheard_autosport MX5. Ticked a couple off the bucket list with finally competing in the Jim Clark Reivers and even squeezed in my first trip to the Mull Rally with @carbonpositivemotorsport in October! I haven’t posted on here for a while… had a lot of thinking to do after our off at Galloway Hills. Sadly poor JIG suffered significant damage and won’t be ready any time soon. Unfortunately that means we won’t be at Carlisle or Malton Forest as planned - not how we wanted our season to end. Time to re-group, get the car repaired and start planning for next season. “That’s rallying” - one of the most clichéd phrases in rallying but pretty much sums up our day at the Grampian Forest Rally yesterday! Stage 1 went really well, a little messy in places but pleased with the pace and time. Stage 2 we got a puncture on the rear left making the car extremely difficult to drive so had to back off but managed to finish the stage and change it in road time. Stage 3 we tried some new tyres and I was really happy with the grip. Unfortunately we overran a junction at a 9L where someone had wiped the tape out and took us a while to get turned and back to where we needed to be in the dust. Stage 4 - another puncture! There were a lot of rocks which had been kicked out onto the line and we hit one which completely shredded a tyre tyre. With the car undriveable we stopped to change it on stage and lost a lot of time. I was feeling pretty frustrated when we got back for second service and as all tyre vans had left we had to make the most of what we had for the last two stages. Stage 5 was better and stage 6 was ok apart from some visibility issues with dust. All in all a tough day in the office but we got a finish and the car is intact with the punctures the only damage. The positives… really happy with the pace on the first stage and on stage 3 until we had the overshoot; found a tyre I was really happy with; had a great chippy tea and irn bru on the way down the road! Next up is the Galloway Hills Rally in less than 4 weeks. This was my favourite event last year so really looking forward to it and hopefully things go more smoothly! Scottish rally ✔️ missed this one last year due to catching covid so it was my first time on this event. Some tough stages - we were early in the running order due to reverse seeding so stages weren’t too cut up but very slippy and rough in places. Took me a bit of time to get used to driving on gravel again and build up confidence. Unfortunately we suffered from a puncture on SS5 and lost some time but were able to change it on a road section - resulting in a very muddy race suit! A shame to lose some time but all in all a great event 🤩 Really enjoyed getting back out on gravel - next up is the Grampian Rally in 3 weeks which was my first gravel rally in JIG last year so looking forward to getting back out on those stages. What a day at the McRae Rally Challenge! Awesome stages, especially our blast on the rallycross stage on stage 3! We were caught out on stage 1 on the wrong tyres after a delay and a downpour but clawed back some time and sitting fourth in class at the midway point just a second off third. A really special event to take part in and looking forward to day two tomorrow. Really excited to be competing in this year's McRae Rally Challenge at @knockhillracingcircuit this weekend! The event commemorates Colin McRae becoming the youngest ever World Rally Champion in 1995 and has been delayed since 2020 due to covid. It's a real honour to be asked to compete in such a special event and at my home circuit. This event last ran in 2015 and I was lucky enough to co-drive in a Metro 6R4 - I didn't switch to the driver's seat until 2016 and I never could have imagined back in 2015 that I would be driving myself the next time the event took place! @marcfowler will be returning to the co-driver's seat for the weekend, and JIG is ready to go after our incident last weekend - thanks to @fjrs_engineering. As well as the rally, there will be a variety of rally attractions, parades and guest appearances - get your tickets online from the Knockhill website. @carbonpositivemotorsport are carbon offsetting all rally competitors’ stage mileage based on estimated fuel use. Spectators can also offset their travel emissions with a discount via the Carbon Positive Motorsport website. Wow, what a weekend at the Argyll Rally for round four of the @scottishrallychampionship! Such a tough event so I’m over the moon we made it to the end! We started on Friday evening in dark, wet conditions and unfortunately stage 4 was cancelled for us. Conditions improved for Saturday and we found a good rhythm. Really pleased with the progression since this event last year. Unfortunately I did throw poor JIG into a ditch on stage 10 and it’s a little worse for wear with a bent bottom arm (again!) but many thanks to the many who helped recover us. I thought it was the end of our rally but they helped get us back on the road, we got a stage max and were able to continue and finish the rally. Thanks to @martinhaggett for doing a brilliant job on the notes, and to @fjrs_engineering - JIG was faultless and even drove well after our ditch incident!
