This morning at practice @therinxtsp I found that someone left this note on my bag. Words cannot express how surprised I was and how good I felt to read it. Knowing I have the support of my peers and at my home means the world to me. I can, at times, be my own worst critic in my pursuit of becoming a better skater. With the support of my coaches, friends, family, and fellow skaters, I am learning to embrace the journey and trust the process. I am so very grateful for this note. To know I have inspired anyone is the most wonderful compliment I could receive. My mom plans to laminate it so that I can keep it in my bag and always refer to it if I need to. My home is in my heart and I will take this note and support with me wherever I may go on my journey. It is my honor to skate with all of you. My daughter (12) has been using Edea Skates IceFly for the past 3 years. This is her 4th year. She had sprained her left ankle twice in past 3 years, and it’s acting up again. I hear that Edea users often experience ankle injuries. To be fair for Edea, my daughter loves her boots, and they are easy to break in. She has wide feet, and both B and C widths fit her well (245B or 240C to be exact). That being said, I can’t help thinking that Edea might have contributed to the multiple cases of her ankle injuries. A little background to fill you in. She has pronation, and she uses Superfeet in her boots. She also has a pronounced bone structure in her left ankle, and the tongue of her left skate always needs to be cut out around that area, and that’s been working out fine....until earlier this week. She felt pain right around that area - in the medial side of her left ankle along the posterior tibial tendon or the deltoid ligament. She managed to skate for 30min, but couldn’t jump. She came off the ice limping. And now, just to put skates on, she feels pain in that area. I already took the boots for adjustment, they punched out, re-heat molded, and nothing eased the pain. She is walking, running, and jumping fine in her street shoes. Anyone experienced similar issues with Edea? What was your solution? Did you switch from Edea to another brand? What brand did you switch to, and why? She has wide feet, and when she tried Risport in the past, they felt tight for her. When she was still in LTS, she wore Riedell. I don’t have an experience with Riedell’s higher-level boots, but I hear that Riedell takes time to break in. I’m in desperate need of help with this. Any experience sharing, recommendation, suggestion, or advice would be very much appreciated. When your coach tells you that you’re close to a Michelle Kwan spiral & your brain goes 🤔🤨. Everybody who watched figure skating back in the late 1990s & early 2000s have seen this move (even if they didn’t know the name) being executed by Michelle (salmon/pink color dress). That was her trademark move. I always wanted to do one just like her. Problem: no matter how flexible I was, I couldn’t bring my leg up. 😭 My leg was parallel to the ice 😢 Now that my coach corrected my technique & watching a replay of myself (bright yellow top), I’m like “o…m…g… my leg is above the height of the board 🥲😱.” Next question for myself is can I get it even higher to match Michelle, Karen Chen (in black) or Sasha Cohen (in red)? Only time will tell!
