Human chain has appeared in UK, United States, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, and many other countries. One of the most famous example was the "Baltic Way" of Aug 23 1989, where two million people joined hands across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania to advocate for independence. On August 23, 2019, Hong Kong people joined hands to form a 50 kilomitres long "Hong Kong Way" human chain, leading all the way to the top of Lion Rock Hill, shining beams of light overlooking Hong Kong. It was estimated 210,000 Hong Kongers joined hands on that day. Police failed to show up despite being told of gathering of hundreds of men in white shirts with weapons. However, CCP has now banned anymore such flower memorial at the entrance of Prince Edward MTR Station, in order to erase history and people's memory. Executed in 2021 "This is the Lennon Wall at the staircase leading to government office of Legislative Council complex in Admiralty, Hong Kong. The first Lennon Wall appeared in Prague, Czechoslovakia, after John Lennon's murder in 1980. The wall was decorated with art, lyrics from the Beatles' music, and messages of various global causes. In Hong Kong, first Lennon Wall appeared during the Umbrella Movement in 2014. Protesters pasted colourful Post-It notes with messages and drawings advocating for democracy and freedom. During the 2019–20 Hong Kong anti-Extradition protests, Lennon Walls appeared again across Hong Kong. With the enactment of the National Security Law, the Lennon Wall and other forms of protest are now criminalized. At 15, he organized a massive political rally attended by over 100,000 people to protest against ""Moral and National Education"" (""Brainwashing Education""), successfully resisted the implementation of the syllabus. He played a pivotal role during the 2014 Hong Kong Umbrella Movement resulted in his inclusion in TIME magazine's Most Influential Teens of 2014 and nomination for its 2014 Person of the Year. In 2018, he was nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, along with Nathan Law, Alex Chow and the entire Umbrella Movement. Joshua had been arrested numerous time, and has recently been detained for his role in 2019 Anti-Extradition Protests. Artist: Ricker Choi 2019 Summer of Freedom - 2019自由之夏 Pigment print collage on PVC foam board Executed in 2019 - 2022 Ricker Choi's career is in financial risk management, but his passions are piano and painting. He immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in the 1980s, and very soon lost his Hong Konger identity. This changed in 2019 June when he saw with deep emotions 1 million, then 2 million Hong Kongers persistently came out in protest against the Extradition Law. Ricker reacted with very strong emotions and he started writing music and painting for Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement. Ricker has painted more than 100 works for Hong Kong, and can be see at www.rickerchoi.com/painting (link in bio) Ricker’s art and piano composition “Hong Kong Rhapsody” (香港狂想曲 – available on YouTube) has been labeled by the Chinese state media as “separatist art and music”, and on April 20, 2022, 文匯報Wen Hui Bao, a Chinese regime funded news paper, accused Ricker of having infringed on the National Security Law, thereby banning Ricker from entering Hong Kong and mainland China. Having regained his Hong Konger identity, Ricker continues to paint for Hong Kong, expressing his emotions towards a people under oppression. But he remembers his friends who are still in Hong Kong, and his identity as a "handfoot" fighting with his brothers and sisters back in 2019. He sees Lion Rock Mountain for the last time. During 2019 anti-extradition movement, Hong Kongers folded thousands and thousands of paper cranes at rallies to commemorate those who died during Hong Kong protests. The artist has placed paper cranes in the sky and one at the window ledge. Been a bit busy recently but better be later than never :-) 唔係以為我唔記得啊嘛。通常都係喺 6.9 post 但今年試下喺 6.12 post, 因為呢一日，政府選擇咗與香港市民作對並且動用武力，標誌咗時代革命嘅開始...... 三年了， 還記得當年的來龍去脈嗎？ 還記得我們守護的真相嗎？ 還記得大家共同的目標嗎？ 我想講嘅嘢，同其他獨立媒體，文宣大同小異，所以我唔重覆啦，香港人都心照啦。希望大家毋忘初衷，齊上齊落，一齊向目標前進。 So for those who are not aware, what had happened on 12th June 2019? After the ralley on 9th June 2019, which demonstrated Hongkonger's concern to the controversial modification of the Extradition Law, the Hong Kong Government turned a deaf ear on the citizens, which stimulated the ralley on 12th June 2019. This ralley was approved by Hong Kong Police (which means it was a LEGAL gathering). Majority of the citizen remained sensible throughout the ralley. At around 1547, the Police began to repel peaceful protesters with excessive violence. It is recorded that Police used over 240 tear gases, 3 bean bag rounds, 19 rubber bullets and 30 sponge grenades on peaceful unprotected protesters, causing more than 80 people injured with 2 severely injured. Later, Amnesty International condemned the excessive violence adopted by Hong Kong Police, which violates the International Human Right Laws. This film by and for Hongkongers, about the Hong Kong pro-democracy movement, is very special. It's terrifying, heartbreaking and inspiring in equal measure. Ordinary people from all walks of life coming together and risking everything to fight against totalitarianism. The film is banned in HK and China, and many of those in it, including a journalist and professor, are now in prison.
