I had a great conversation with Dewey and Warranty talking about Air Oil Separators and Dry Sumps, Crankcase Pressure, as well as the power of the Subaru Community. Part of what sparked this conversation was our recent video we put up talking about "troubleshooting Why your AOS doesn't work". It might seem that Dewey and I would be of fairly different opinions about Air Oil Separators, but that was not the case, and we talk through that in this Podcast. In addition, we talk in pretty good detail about the transition point where you might want to switch from an Air Oil Separator to a Dry Sump Oiling system. This is how the topic of crankcase pressure came up, and we also talk about how helpful that can be to monitor, and what looking at crankcase pressure can tell you about your engine and PC system. Snorkel for the Scubaru, and other oiling improvements ✅ After some research, and tons of “jUsT bUy A kILLeR bEe SeTuP bRo” posts, best bang for the buck to me seemed to be 06+ STI pan since it’s a “deeper” V shape and much more open single tier baffling to allow for rapid oil drain back-plus allegedly offers much better aftermarket header clearance, an STI baffle plate that is also MUCH more open for oil drain back. The @rogerclarkmotorsport pickup+extension/damper clearly puts the pickup point basically at the absolute bottom of the pan, as it literally touches the bottom and is meant to compress about 5mm. New mirrors for the blue Impreza! While the “WRC” styling of the GD Imprezas is not as popular as it once was, so many things about the Prodrive cars just looked right. We’ve had WRC-style aftermarket mirrors on for years, not even sure of the brand tbh, but when @rogerclarkmotorsport introduced their carbon fibers WRC mirrors, @shicky02 thought they’d be a perfect upgrade. Plus, my silver Impreza gets to inherit his old mirrors. A win-win! 😄 The RCM mirrors are stunning in person, and fit quite well. Very easy install. We did have to open up the bottom hole of the gusset a bit on the right side, as the bottom bolt goes in at a bit of a steep angle, but for CF parts made by a private company going on a 22 year old car, that can be expected from time to time and was hardly an issue. New hardware included as well. The best part is that while the RCM mirrors weighed just slightly less than the aftermarket mirrors we had, they weigh over 2lbs less than the OEM factory mirrors! Welp the original expansion tank finally started leaking after 246k miles. I didn't want to replace it with an OE+ plastic tank so I found a full billet one from Aluminati US. Only had one small issue with the alignment of the lower hose and the tank creating a T condition at the nipple. Ended up moving the hard water pipe slightly and trimming the hose back at the expansion tank. I wrapped up the brake downgrade on the STi last weekend with parts from #flatironstuning. Installed a set of 15" rally wheels and tires last week and took the win in the Modified AWD class at today's rallycross. Quite the fast little setup.

Always refer to your Subaru's manual for the recommended grade. 🌡️📊 2️⃣ API Certification and Additives: The oil should meet the American Petroleum Institute (API) standards for your Subaru. For direct injection engines, like in the 2015+ WRX, a different direct injection certification is recommended. Some oils include additives for extra protection against wear and oxidation.
