“To nie Montmartre wspiera bazylikę, lecz bazylika Montmartre.” 😱 Budowniczowie Sacré-Coeur bardzo szybko przekonali się, że wzgórze jest… podziurawione! 🧀 Od średniowiecza w tej okolicy wydobywano gips (jego złoża były wykorzystywane do produkcji “tynku paryskiego”, co dało początek jego nazwie) i kamień wapienny (z niego powstała chociażby katedra Notre-Dame). Gdyby ta wielka budowla stanęła na takim podłożu, całe wzgórze zapadłoby się, grzebiąc świątynię! Prace budowlane musiały więc rozpocząć się od solidnego przygotowania terenu. ⚠️ Wykopano 83 gigantyczne szyby - każdy o głębokości ponad 30m i wypełniono betonem. Na tych potężnych kolumnach połączonych arkadami stanęła dopiero bazylika. Jej główna struktura została zbudowana z właśnie z kamienia wapiennego z wewnątrz wzgórza. Same kamieniołomy były z czasem likwidowane, zamykane lub przekształcane wraz z rozwojem urbanistycznym.
