During the late 1960s, surfing in Southern California had become an extremely popular sport. “Beach Movies” made popular during this time often featured custom cars, dune buggies, and vans that created a whole new type of car culture. But it was the inventive surfers who modified vans to transport not only their surfboards but to also be used as a “home away from home.” The surfer van idea arrived at Galpin Ford, creating its own wave of interest with Bert Boeckmann and the Galpinizers. The arrival of the 1968 Econoline Van was a game changer and replaced the 1961-1967 Falcon-based Econoline. Bert Boeckmann saw the movement towards fun to drive vehicles with great gas mileage as an opportunity to deliver Galpinized Pintos. Whether it was the Pinto Pacer or the Aquarium Pinto (which literally held a rear area fish tank)the team provided a wide variety to choose from. The Pinto Pacer in particular would go on to influence Ford’s own redesign of the Pinto a few model years down the road. Our version was not wrapped, it actually received a full paint job. With a Whipple Supercharger system and Magnaflow exhaust, the total power output was estimated at 550 hp. The inside of the truck features an Xbox that can feed a video signal to all four monitors in the cab. When in park, the gameplay can also be displayed on the dashboard touch screen. The other monitors are in the front-seat headrests, and another roof-mounted 10-inch flip-down monitor. The seats were reupholstered with green neoprene inserts and embroidered with the Halo 4 logo on the backrests.
