“GMC Jimmy. Backbone Standard.” Another Costco surprise find! This is a 1999 GMC Jimmy SLE in immaculate condition finished in Victory Red! This is an interesting little truck as something of its size made today is pretty much guaranteed to have monocoque construction, but not here. This is still a body on frame truck. This gives it a nice blend of decent off-road ability (with the available 4x4) while still being able to drive decently well on the road. This Jimmy rides on the GMT330 platform shared with the Chevy S10 Pickup, Blazer/Trailblazer (for 99-01 only), GMC Sonoma, Envoy, Oldsmobile Bravada, and perhaps the most obscure of them all, Isuzu Hombre. What makes this particular example really incredible is it’s still with its original owner according to my research! It’s really in gorgeous shape which for these is rare! By now, so many of them are rotting away but this one certainly isn’t! It really looks like a total time capsule! The GMC Typoon...the orginal sporty sport utility. The GMC Typoon was a very limited production SUV based on the 2 door GMC Jimmy suv. The Typoon was released for 1992 and lasted til 1993..only 4,600 some odd units were produced. The Typoon featured the Turbocharged 4.3 V6 from the GMC Syclone pickup. Which made an impressive (at the time) 280hp which gave it a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds. According to Car and Driver it beat out a Ferrari 348Ts and the C4 Corvette. Found this back in the summer. These early S series pickups have always been a favorite of mine. The GMC Sonoma and Chevy S10 were GMs replacement for the Isuzu built Chevy Luv. Debuted in 1981 the GMC Sonoma was originally called the S15. The Sonoma name would be added to them later. 1991 was the first refresh of the trucks adding a revised grill and dash/interior. These trucks had a few different engine choices over the years including the 2.5 Iron Duke 4, 2.8 V6 and the 4.3 V6. The trucks would receive a major update in 94 as the 2nd generation debuted. Which was one of the first domestic luxury SUVs on the market. Based off the GMT330 platform the Bravada had its own 4X4 system known as "Smarttrak" the 2nd generation was introduced for 1996 and lasted til 2001. When the Bravada moved to the GMT360 platform that was shared with the Trailblazer. The first engine maintainence: - throttle body cleaning and reassembling with original AC Delco repair kit - sucessfully done ✔️ - spark plugs replacement - first failed ❌ when tried to put AC Delco ones (whey were faulty, new plugs I did only 50 km on them are at the photos). And then with Denso set - sucessfully done ✔️ - engine oil replacement - sucessfully done ✔️ But still the engine is not quite allright. The idle is unstable while the engine is cold. Can't hold the idle without using throttle for a few minutes from start.
