Hampton is a driving town, yet to experience the local culture you have to drive at least 12 minutes away. It was there I not only found numerous black owned sea food restaurants but a variety of options that revolved around tastes and budget. #2 Got Fish? Seafood Opening their first location right before the pandemic, Got Fish? Seafood’s initial incarnation was of a food truck which rapidly became successful after opening in 2017. My initial assumption was that this was a chain restaurant. The professionalism, service (they even hold the door for you on the way out), and quality was a pleasant reminder that black owned does not mean poor service/quality. Deciding to go with Shrimp & Grits, which was introduced to American’s via the Gullah of Hilton Head, the smell alone had me do a double take. Added bonus was the personable staff which where happy to share stories of the business’ success and their personal experiences. Want to learn more?
