Staying steadfast in our mission, this weekend we continued our service with Food Not Bombs, right across the street from walled-off park. The walls might have changed our location, but they haven’t walled off our spirit or commitment. 🌳 Despite the hurdles, including the lack of a stable venue, we keep bringing nourishment to those who need it most. We’re still here, adapting and serving, because hunger doesn’t stop, and neither will we. Our vibrant community keeps the hope alive. From the scrumptious Indian meals cooked by our friends from Marin to the hot food prepared in collaboration with local students, we’re fueled by collective effort and a shared belief in solidarity over charity. This is more than a meal service; it’s a declaration of love and resilience. This snapshot captures the quiet aftermath of a busy hour of serving, the remaining supplies a testament to the need we fill and the impact we make. Though my team shies away from the camera, preferring to let their dedication speak through action, their heroism doesn’t go unnoticed. For nearly four and a half years, from November 2019 to this day in April 2024, we’ve stood strong against the winds of change and challenge. As UC Berkeley dreams of future projects, we focus on the present necessity, advocating for a space where Food Not Bombs can flourish and extend our reach. It’s through the simple act of sharing a meal that we fortify the bonds of community. Every single performance and artist was phenomenal!! So much skill was on full display! ⠀ The acts were so fun, a little spicy and so well choreographed. Yesterday we held our very first outdoor session and WOW was it more amazing than we could have hoped for! A bunch of community members came out to play in some 4v4 matches to help us test the system outside and get some practice in for the upcoming June 8th Tournament. Big love to everyone who helped to make our first Market of the year such a success! We sold absolutely everything that we harvested and that feels like such a good omen for our 2024 season... We have been sharing what we grow at the @crestonfarmersmarket for more than a decade. In that time, yesterday was one of only a few times that we have gone home with nothing left. People who sell fresh veggies at market learn a mantra early on... "Pile it high and deep!" When stock dwindles, people generally become disinterested. It is a fascinating (and slightly maddening!) phenomenon. When we harvest to deliver to home and restaurant kitchens on Wednesdays, there is a tremendous amount of ease and comfort in knowing that all of the food has already been spoken for. Getting ready for market is another story. We usually harvest much more than we can sell. Almost everything unsold is eaten or preserved by our family and staff. Anything after that (very, very little) is composted. Still, it is hard to know how much to pick and wash and sort and weigh and pack for Market. Selling out feels like a testament to how supportive this community is. Also, to how hungry for good local food we are all becoming. Hooray for that! P.S. Minden fát nagyon megbecsülök itt, a kicsiknek drukkolok, a nagyokat csodálom, vagy csak simán örülök nekik. Külön megsüvegelem gondolatban azokat, akik extrém szitukban, erkélyeken, házak oldalában vagy teleszemetelve is odaköszönnek minden évben, vagy egyszercsak előbukkannak egy kerítés mögül, mint ez. A fotózás körülményei a szokásosak voltak, egy melós nap után a gyerekeket összeszedve, megfuttatva, kilevegőztetve egymillió cuccal jöttünk hazafelé. A foghíjtelek mellett is ugyanúgy mentünk el, mint minden nap, de a fára is ugyanúgy ránéztem, ahogy minden nap. Teljesen spontán jutott eszembe, hogy végre gyorsan lefényképezzem, a szemem sarkából láttam, hogy mellette már be van állványozva a fél ház. A falat meszelték, gondolom beázás volt vagy ilyesmi. A gyerekek nem örültek hogy megálltunk, nyűgösek voltak és éhesek, már nagyon haza akartak menni. Egy percre ugrottam így be a telekre, szaladtam is vissza. Másnap a fának hűlt helye volt. Local Dancers compete in Medicine Hat 🎶 Four local dancers entered the Medicine Hat Dance invasion on April 14 and placed into the Final Dance Off. The Finals included the top 20 out of over 400 entries from Dance schools all across BC and Alberta. They won third overall for Intermediate 1. Girls in picture, from front to back are Alana Wharton, Maya Campbell, Veronica Hybner, Martina Loesch. They placed with a Hip hop number called GTA, taught and choreographed by Laura Kaupas.
