Saturday evening update from @cadwellpark_msv ! It was the second time ever @sam.daffin has been around the Mini Nurburgring they call @cadwellpark_msv , the first being an icy winters track day session in a 1700 Puma a few years ago. Best qualifying time for the #superfestamk2 was captured on the penultimate lap of the session, but started to witness some clutch issues. Managed to arrange for new components to be picked up just before the Saturday afternoon store closure , but unfortunately just not enough time to get them fitted before Race 1. We put the request into Race Control to start the #superfestamk2 from the back of the grid to not cause any issues during the start of the @ctcrc Classic Touring Car Racing Club grid full of @laser_tools Pre-93 Touring Cars , Burty Pre-2003 Touring Cars & @burton_power @ctcrcboss Blue Oval Saloons Series. This is the 2024 McLaren Solus GT (6 of 25), completed on July 28th of 2023, delivered to @thetriplefcollection in February 2024, and debuted for the first time in March 2024 at @modaevents_offical. This Solus is finished in a livery inspired by the colors of the major global oil company in operation from 1901 to 1985, @gulfoilinternational. Gulf Oil became involved in the motorsports in the year 1937 and the orange/blue livery first became popular in the 1960’s after the company sponsored the John Wyer Automotive racing team. Gulf Oil and McLaren’s relationship dates back to the 60’s with their success in the Can-Am series and still thrives to this day. Between 1995 and 1997, several McLaren F1 GTR’s wore the livery, one of them being victorious in the 1996 BPR Global Endurance Series. The Solus boasts a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque, and while built to FIA crash standards, all of the restrictions that would typically apply to a track or road car have been waived. The Solus GT offers F1-style carbon fiber crash structures, 3D-printed titanium components, a uniquely designed sliding canopy roof system and much more. On the interior of the Solus GT, you’ll find only one seat, a six-point race harness, adjustable pedals, and an F1-inspired steering wheel. All Solus clients receive a bespoke HANS (head and neck support device), an intercom system with pit-to-car radios, spare sets of wheels, a custom racing helmet and more. The Solus GT project was entirely based on the 2017 Vision Gran Turismo concept car from the @sony video game ‘Gran Turismo Sport’. For their last Le Mans with the GTE Porsche, and for the centenary, GR Racing applied to their 911 RSR a special livery at Le Mans in 2023. Between the scrutineering and the practice, the car that was entirely black with orange pinstripes, received new colors on the right side. The light blue and the increased presence of orange are indeed a reference to Gulf Racing colors, the name of the team for a few years before they changed to just GR and went from traditional Gulf livery to the current black scheme. The right of the car didn’t change though. Look at the way the Porsche lettering on the windshield follows the break. Loving the Dr Jekyll and Mister Hyde look, on profile shots, the car looks totally different! In the very last stages of the race, Michael Wainwright, Ben Barker and Riccardo Pera benefited from the issues on the Iron Dames Porsche and made their way to the GTE podium (GTE Am was the only class last year after GTE Pro had been phased out in 2022). This third place is the last ever podium for a GTE Porsche 991 RSR at Le Mans.

After the #dafsportracing @gulfracefuels powered #superfestamk2 made its inaugural racing debut at @doningtonpark competing in Round 1 of the @ctcrc Classic Touring Car Racing Club season opener, we wanted to pull the engine out and give everything a good check over to make sure there was nothing amiss, and of course in preparation for Round 2 of the @ctcrc Classic Touring Car Racing Club at @cadwellpark_msv next weekend.
