Had a whole day of exploring by myself with my trusty photographer. Lol 📍Cafe Pokpo - Cafe overlooking a man-made waterfalls, north of Myeongdong. It was very crowded! To the point that the coffee got sold out. After exploring the Ansam Cherry Blossom Walkway, was able to buy an Americano eventually upon going back. This was a really gorgeous cafe. 📍Namsangol Hanok Village - Less crowded Hanok village than the more popular Bukchon Hanok Village. Has more Korean Cultural activities like tea drinking ceremonies etc, but significantly smaller and less shopping. Last photo - my trusty photographer 😂😂 Going around Seoul can be difficult since some restaurants don't allow single diners, and would pair you with strangers. Past better than Fast 마니산방 화방벽을 올리며. 돌이켜보면 핸드메이드 중에 꽤 근사한 것들이 많습니다. 손으로 반죽하여 만드는 빵, 물레를 돌려 빚어내는 달항아리, 꼭꼭 눌러쓴 손편지, 어머니가 빚어주시는 손만두. 이들은 아스라히 사라져가지만 아직은 손 내밀면 닿을 만한 곳에 자리합니다. 마니산방 화방벽을 올리는 날이었습니다. 수평으로 선을 만들고 자연석을 다듬어 돌담을 쌓고 간극을 매워갑니다. 밑돌은 크게 올라가면서 점점 작아지는 돌들로. 복원 과정에서 나온 돌을 재활용 하여 제로웨이스트를 추구합니다. 과거의 목수들보다 더욱 정교하고 세심하게 진행하고 있습니다. 마음을 다해 임해 주시는 강대목님과 규혁님, Chak님, 임수님 등 크루들께 감사한 마음입니다. 우리나라에서 지난 것 중에 꽤 근사한 것들이 많습니다. 집집마다의 장독대, 술익는 마을마다 타는 저녁놀. 벽 한줄 쌓고 다듬고 다지고. 문학교과서에 나오던 시가 한 수 기억나고. 이렇게 만든 한옥이 하나라도 남아 있어 100년 후 누군가 한국의 전통 가옥이 어떠했냐 물어볼 때 대답할 수 있는 곳이 되기를 바랍니다. 강화는 그러기에 참 좋은 곳이니까요. 나무는 숨쉬고 돌은 견고하며 시원한 온기가 감돕니다. 오늘은 또 하나의 Past @baemui.naru @chak.haeyo @kyuhyeok_kim #한옥 #전통 #계승 #handmade #sustainability #마니산방 #artwork #zerowaste #koreanhouse #kculture #hanok #배무이

[Korean Traditional House] Light travels through the kitchen window along with people’s heart Just as the reception building is the space for men, the main building is the space for women. Therefore we can see the traits of the wife by looking at the structure of the kitchen, which is always a part of the main building. Gwangchang in some houses show the outside scenery, by which we can feel the change of seasons, but the gwangchang in the kitchen of Kim Dongsu’s house shows the scene of the main building itself. Some people may prefer the natural scenery while some may prefer the sight of the main building. If the direction of the gwangchang is toward the outside, the natural scenery will be seen through it, and if it is toward the main building as in the case of Kim Dongsu’s house, then it will show us the sight of the main building where the wife of the house stays all the time. This weekend we went on a little trip to a city outside of Seoul. We went to Jeonju (전주) in Jeolla Province (전라도). The city is known for having Korea's biggest Hanok Village (한옥 마을). A hanok is a traditional korean house. We also stayed in a hanok, which was an amazing experience. Characterizing for hanoks, but also modern korean homes is, that they almost always have a floor heating. It is not quite certain when floor heating was first invented in Korea, but it probably goes back to the time of the three Kingdoms (approximately 18 BCE-668 CE). From the sino-korean term Ondol (온돌/溫突) we can actually guess how the heating system worked, as the first Hanja (한자) means "warmth" and the second one means "stone". The floor heating makes it really comfortable to sit and sleep on the floor. We felt really comfortable just laying around, when we came back from walking around all day.  Jeonju is also known for being the alleged origin city of a korean dish called Bibimbap (비빔밥), which is rice mixed with vegetables and meat or tofu. The most popular Bibimbap to try in Jeonju is Beef Tartare Bibimbap (육회 비빔밥), so of course we had to try it while we were there.  While walking through the Hanok Village we saw a little market, where we bought a fan from a calligraphy master, who handwrote the sentence we picked out. We also nearly died while riding the city buses. The Jeonju bus drivers are literal maniacs. I am an adventurous bunny so I enjoyed it, but Han Quokka was seriously scared for his life. Jeonbang waterfall is renowned for being the only waterfall in Asia that directly falls into the ocean. 지난 19일, 가옥에서는 [#시저 : 옻의 빛깔] 프로그램 세 번째 시간이 진행되었습니다. 홍건익가옥 시저 프로그램은 옻나무 수액을 이용한 옻칠을 통해 일상 가까이 사용할 수 있는 자신만의 수저세트를 제작해 보는 시간입니다. 참여자분들은 자개 조각을 여러 형태로 붙이고, 옻칠 도료를 원하는 색으로 조색한 뒤 섬세하게 칠하며 완성하였습니다. 홍건익가옥 시저 프로그램은 세 번째 수업을 마지막으로 마무리 되었습니다. 5월부터는 새로운 ‘식食’을 풀어낸 공예 프로그램이 진행될 예정이오니 앞으로도 많은 관심 부탁드립니다. 정성을 담은 옻칠을 통해 전통공예에 대한 소중함을 느끼게 해주신 김수영 작가님과 참여해 주신 모든 분들께 감사의 인사를 전하며 가옥에 남겨주신 소감을 공유합니다. ✉️ 옻칠을 하는 공간과 느리게 흐르는 시간이 참 좋았습니다. ✉️ 일상의 도구를 특별하게 만들어볼 수 있어서 좋았습니다. ✉️ 장소도 정갈한 곳에서 옻칠 공예를 처음 접할 수 있어서 좋았어요. ✉️ 옻칠에 대해 알 수 있었던 시간이라서 좋았습니다. 만든 수저로 이번 봄에 맛있는 나물 비빔밥 먹어야 겠어요.
