This table lamp was sold by Sears, a major US retailer, but was manufactured by National Stamping & Electric Works (Nulite). It appears in the Sears catalog from the late 1930s to very early 1940s. The model number is 07705. The air intake tube is "elephant nose" style. As I posted before, the Optimus 200 was introduced around 1930 as the Optimus 821, and soon the model number was changed to 200 in response to strong protests from Erich & Graetz AG, the manufacturer of the Petromax 821 at the time. Now, my Optimus 200 posted here seems to have exactly the same fittings as the Optimus 821, except that the engraving on the tank says 200, not 821. So it might be the first version of the Optimus 200. However, I have not yet confirmed the Optimus parts lists for 1930 and 1931. So please note that this is just my guess. I'd like to point out 3 things. 1) The protrusion behind the lower block of the one-piece vaporizer is for mounting the shut-off valve, which was equipped with gasoline lanterns, such as the model 200B. In the early 1930s, when Optimus introduced pressure lanterns, this type of one-piece vaporizer seemed to be shared by both kerosene and gasoline lanterns. 2) The mixing tube appears to be made of folded brass sheet instead of tubing. I suspect that this type of mixing tube was only used for a short time. 3) The pump knob is small and has no bayonet. Also, the cover of the pump cylinder has no locking function. I have seen 3 model 821s and all 3 had the same fittings. According to the ca.1932 catalog, the Optimus 200 has a large pump knob, a bayonet, and a locking function, so it seems that the above fittings were changed in a very short time. This is my Primus 4, date code E, made in 1915. I don't know why, but the E is stamped over the D. It seems that the introduction of the Model 4 was old and the model is already listed in the catalog of around 1903. The tank capacity is about 1 1/2 pints. Mine is equipped with a "deep-skirt" R126 burner. However, in 1915, the R132, which had the same "deep-skirt" but a different shape of outer hood, would have been equipped to the Model 4. So please note that mine (R126) is not an appropriate fitting. This is a Primus 402 and it's the rarest stove in my small collection. It has no date code but it is listed in the ca.1922 Primus catalogue. It has a 2-1/4 pint steel tank with embossed raised lettering, removable pot supports and is fitted with an R121 as standard burner. This burner works as both a silent burner and a roarer burner by replacing the silencer (and its lid) with a cast burner plate, like the Model 100 stove. Although it doesn't yet have a nipple-cleaning function, it is a very practical burner because it has a replaceable jet nipple and a shut-off valve that can regulate the frame without reducing the pressure in the tank. According to the Primus catalogue, the Model 402 came in a cardboard box with a top ring, burner plate, silencer, lighter, spanner, cleaning needles and instructions. Unfortunately mine has no box or instructions. This is a Baby Petromax, Petromax 821, made by Ehrich & Graetz AG, Berlin, Germany. It runs on kerosene and produces about 200cp. Mine has a scratched date code "7/30" on the bottom of the tank, which means it was assembled in July 1930. The 821 is fitted with a Preston Loop vaporizer, patented in 1927. It seems to have first appeared in the 1926 catalogue, but unfortunately I have not been able to confirm this yet. So a safe description would be that the Model 821 was introduced sometime in the late 1920s. My 821 has the following characteristics and seems to be one of the very early variants ・The central part of the ventilator top is cross-stiffened. ・The upper part of the ventilator and the inner chimney are integrated by 2 screws. ・Equipped with a 1-piece vaporizer. ・Has a protrusion behind the lower block of the 1-piece vaporizer for mounting the valve which shuts off the fuel flow. As of 1930, there was a gasoline version, model 819, so it is likely that parts were shared. ・The upper part of the tank is divided into 5 stiffened sections. ・Fiber plicker wheel ・Has a pump lock function that combines the pump cylinder cover and pump knob. ・Logo design engraved on the tank, blank between the top two seahorse marks, no 821 number, Baby-Petromax in line at bottom. Please note that my 821 was imported to Spain by the company "Casa Klaebisch" Via Layetana 149, Barcelona, Spain and it has a label on the base rest "VENTA EXCLUSIVA A.KLAEBISCH BARCELONA". This is a Hasag 151P PRESTO made by Hugo Schneider AG, Leipzig, Germany some time in the late 1930s. It runs on kerosene and produces about 300cp. It was one of variants of the model 51 and was fitted with a preheat torch. I have not confirmed exact timing when Hugo Schneider AG introduced the preheat torch into their models． Judging from 151P was listed in ca.1938 catalogue and Erich & Graetz AG (Petromax) had acquired a patent of their preheat torch in the mid to late 1930s, it seems to be sometime in the late 1930s. Considering that World War II began in September 1939, it is a reasonable estimation that the PRESTO models of Hugo Schneider AG were only produced for a VERY short period of time. I suppose this is probably one of the reasons why the PRESTO models are difficult to find today. I've got informative information from J.W. who lives in Germany and is one of the most respected and highly knowledgeable lamp researchers. According to him, Hugo Schneider AG introduced its Presto rapid preheating system for pressure lamps in 1936. And though Hasag AG shut down its storm lantern production in Meuselwitz (located south of Leipzig) in the summer of 1939 in favor of munitions production, the production of pressure lamps continued until March 1943, before it was forcibly shut down by the German state. The REVOLTO preheat torch was invented by Dane M.G.Andersen in the early 1930s and sold as an optional accessory by Radius of Sweden and Gustav Barthel of Germany etc.. The 10th image is an advertisement in Swedish, which translates to English as follows: Revolto lights the kerosene stove without alcohol / Saves work, time, and money / Can be applied to most kerosene stoves It is easy to install on the stove, just remove the fuel filler cap, attach REVOLTO, and attach back the fuel filler cap to the top of REVOLTO. The thread size which allows the REVOLTO to be attached to the fuel filler of the tank is compatible with the 2-pint stove. It's easy to use too. 1) Close the stove burners 2) Set the REVOLTO lever to the closed position 3) Increase the internal pressure of the tank by pumping 4) Move the REVOLTO lever to the open position 5) Since kerosene mist comes out, ignite it with a match etc. 6) After preheating, return the REVOLTO lever to the closed position. 7) Open the burner of the stove and light it with a match etc. Please note that when using a preheat torch such as the REVOLTO, it is preferable to use it with a stove fitted with a burner which has a fuel shut-off feature. This time I used a stove with a Primus 4115 burner, so I stopped the fuel flow by raising the internal cleaning needle. This is a Hasag 55 portable lantern made by Hugo Schneider AG, Leipzig, Germany, presumably from the 1930s. 55 seems to be one of the early models and was listed in the ca.1927 catalog. Please see the 2nd image. Normally it serves as a table lamp but when the hand grip is removed, it serves as a portable lantern. It was introduced most likely sometime in the early 1970s, in response to the introduction of 930M, and presumably continued into the early 1980s. Please note that it still has a "lever type" preheat torch. The later two versions of 1200M, which had a "Petromax style" preheat torch (similar to the one patented in 1964) and Hipolito parts, were presumably introduced sometime in the 1980s. I'm not sure about when 1200M was dropped. Radius 115, 300cp, runs on kerosene The model 115 was listed in the 1939 catalogue but not listed in 1945 catalogue. It is a variant of the model 119 and fitted with a preheat torch. Radius' preheat torches seemed to be not very well received, and I often see the preheat torch removed and replaced with a blank bolt. Radius 120, ca.1930, 300cp, runs on kerosene I'm not sure when the model 120 was introduced, but it is listed on the brochure with the Jun 1930 stamp. Compared to the model 119, which was introduced in ca.1931, 120 has the following features. It is equipped with the straight vaporizer (120/34) instead of the Preston loop one (119/34), and the straight vaporizer is almost the same as that of Hasag model 51 made by Hugo Schneider AG, Germany. The pump cylinder is inserted from the shoulder of the tank, NOT from the side of the tank. The tank lid is the same one as the radius 21 stove. The handle has a small loop with a hook attached. The support collar has more vertical slits than 119. Radius 119, from the early 1950s, 300cp, runs on either kerosene or alcohol This is a so-called "cooktop version" and is from the early 1950s. Delivered only to the Civil Defense (Civilforsvaret) and not have been sold to the general public. Not for the military, so there is no "three crowns" mark. It has several specifications, such as the presence or absence of a shield mark and/or a white sticker with instructions on how to use the adapter kit. The adapter kit consists of three parts, a nipple for alcohol, a cleaning needle and an air restrictor. Please note that it has a LOW dome for the built in pressure relief valve and has a plastic wheel. It has a fuel level gauge on the tank and a LTD engraving on the side of the tank. They were introduced, respectively, around 1937, sometime in the late 1930s and this type continued until the mid-1940s. Please note that the top heat deflector of my 119 was not plated brass, but black enamel coated iron. The set of a lantern adapter and a stove tank were presumably sold from sometime in the late 1930s, but the lantern adapter itself was sold from the early 1930s. I often see the model 143 fitted with the model 21 stove tank without the LTD mark. They may not have been purchased as model 143 from the beginning. Rather may have been purchased as a model 21 stove and may have been added a lantern adapter later on. The lantern adapter can be confusing, so I'd like to mention a bit. The 1931 catalogue lists 121 and 123. The illustrations in that catalogue are very similar to the model 145 and 143 lantern which are listed in the 1939 catalogue. However if you read the 1931 catalogue carefully, you would find that 121 and 123 indicate just the lantern adapters, not the whole lanterns including the stove tanks. 121 shows just the lantern adapter. 123 shows the lantern adapter, with a handle and a wind guard. They were both fitted with a 120/34 vaporizer. And the 1937 catalogue lists clearly the lantern adapters numbered 130 and 131. 130 shows just the lantern adapter. 131 shows the lantern adapter, with a handle and a wind guard. They were both fitted with a 130/34 vaporizer, different from 121 & 123 which had a 120/34 vaporizer. Radius 119, ca.1932/1933, 300cp, runs on kerosene The model 119 was presumably introduced in ca.1931. The major change between 120 and 119 was the vaporizer. The 120 was equipped with a straight vaporizer (120/34) but the 119 had the one with a Preston loop (119/34). Other than that (though there were some minor changes such as the support collar, handle loop & hook, blank bolt etc.) the 119 first type was still equipped with the tank lid of radius 21 stove. Soon the tank lid was changed to the one with wings and the integral pressure relief screw in ca.1932. My 119 posted here is the later one.
