Don’t forget to advocate for yourself! Advocating for yourself is something that I didn’t even realize you had to do to be honest. In my mind when you’re sick, you just go to the doctor, the doctor fixes you, and that’s the end of it. But I learned very quickly, during a near death experience that I had to start to speak up. If I was uncomfortable or if I was in pain, I had to demand to be heard, and if I wasn’t being heard, I needed to find a new doctor. I was timid and insecure and I felt like I didn’t know enough. I felt like I was ignorant and that I couldn’t challenge my doctors. That almost cost me my life. So that’s what I want to say to everyone. Do all that you have to do to fight for yourself. Find that voice and use it. And if you have to get loud, that’s ok too.
