I’m sure that many people know this story by now but there might be some that didn’t know. The song was produced by DJ Pooh who originally gave BIG the instrumental for a St.Ides commercial. The song “New York New York by Tha Dogg Pound started off as a tribute to New York. Pooh samples Grandmaster Flash and the furious five “New York New York.” December of ‘95, Tha Dogg Pound flew to New York to shoot the video there. Melle Mel and other New York legends were supposed to be in the video. While they were there, BIG called up to the radio and basically said he couldn’t believe that they were allowed to come to New York to shoot a video. Some scenes were shot in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The scene with the low riders were shot in Time Square. While they were out there shooting the video, a trailer was shot up. After that, the music video went from a tribute to a diss. And that’s why when you watch the video, you see Snoop kicking over a building. They flew back to L.A. and shot scenes in front of a green screen. The video was released in February of ‘96. Looking back at it, that video is wild. Wild times. The early to mid 90’s were wild. This account stole information from hip-hop journalist Ime Ekpo’s LinkedIn account and created an impersonation account on Instagram to victimize up and coming artists for a feature in The Source Magazine. They stole images from @dat_nigga_rich as a face of their fraud. Ime Ekpo is a female. This account messages aspiring hip-hop artists claiming to be fans of their music and asks them for an interview via DM to be featured in The Source. After the artist DMs them the answers, they hit them with a price tag of $80 to be actually featured in The Source. This is cyber fraud. 1. Ime Ekpo stopped writing for The Source last summer in 2022. 2. It is unethical for a journalist to charge money to be featured in a publication. It’s known as payola. 3. Ime Ekpo does not do interviews with up and coming or aspiring artists. Ime Ekpo has proceeded to take legal action against @james_ime_ekpo_ and @meta @instagram. After a year of reporting this account several times, @meta @instagram refuse to take down this account. Luckily, the FBI conducts investigations that go beyond the orders of the United States in the event the owner of this fraudulent account is out of the United States.
