There are probably a variety of reasons we don’t drink enough water, but I would guess it’s mainly because we satisfy our thirst momentarily with other things: coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks. More often than not, these substitutes for pure water create thirst more than quench it. Are You Thirsty? We are told in Ephesians 5:19 to “drink deeply of God’s Spirit” (WNT). Only by drinking deeply of God’s Spirit will we ever quench our thirst. So, why is it that we don’t turn to Him first to quench our thirsty souls? If you are like me, you are already filled with other things–things that usually deplete you rather than fill you (the busyness of life, the daily activities of raising our children and making ends meet financially). Binging on All the Wrong Things To be completely honest, I find it easier to fill myself with my latest Netflix series than it is to fill my Spirit. It doesn’t take any effort really to plop down on the couch, turn on the television and binge watch a made-for-television series. I deceive myself into thinking I’m drinking deeply if I’m simply attending a gooooood church on Sunday mornings, praying for our family meal and listening to the local Christian radio station. I’m simply sipping at that point! There’s a depth to God’s Spirit that I haven’t even tapped into if I only pray when there’s a crisis. He will never turn a deaf ear to me when I am in crisis, but there’s so much more that He wants to share with me. He wants me to drink deeply of His Spirit and to be in constant communion with Him. Prayer: Lord, help me to drink deeply of your Spirit. Help me to discern what will quench my thirst and what will make me more thirsty and dry. Let me know what it means to be satisfied with You! 𝕋𝕙𝕖 ℍ𝕒𝕣𝕕 𝕋𝕣𝕦𝕥𝕙 𝔸𝕓𝕠𝕦𝕥 ℍ𝕖𝕣 I remember looking at my messy family room, the dishes in the sink, the garden that didn’t do well because I didn’t get out there to weed, the unfinished projects around the house, the piles of laundry everywhere, the homeschool lessons that weren’t finished, and the physical exercise that never happened and finally telling myself: “Julie, you need to cut yourself some slack!” I had 3 boys 3 years old and younger. No one else was expecting these things from me. I’m notorious for being too hard on myself. I have another “Julie” in my mind that I try to live up to but fail all the time. Perfectionism and chasing my ideal are hard task masters! Even today, I was wrestling with HER — the other “Julie.” She would be able to get a wonderful dinner on the table every night even after teaching algebra to a grumpy teenager. 🤪 ➕➖➗✖️🟰 She would not get overwhelmed with her to-do list or snap at her kids. She would wake up with boundless energy and get a full 8-9 hours of deep restorative sleep. She would be able to just keep going no matter what! Enter Jesus, the Good Shepherd! He doesn’t wait til I’m dying of thirst. He takes the initiative and leads me by still waters and refreshes ME — not HER. He makes ME lie down in green pastures — not HER! He knows otherwise I would keep going, try harder, and make sure I planned for each and every contingency, esp the ones concerning setting my son with special needs up for success in life. I’d forget that I can not only TRUST Him; I can ENTRUST their futures to Him. He didn’t ask me to carry these things by myself so I could prove to Him that He could trust me. I had it all wrong! I need a drink from the well of His presence; otherwise, my soul will still demand to be satisfied. But HE is what I C̳R̳A̳V̳E̳! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ What do you crave? Are you desperate for His presence, too? Form of Godliness but Denying Its Power The problem with compromise and staying in the safety of the middle is that the middle is always changing. We think we’re staying neutral, but in reality, we’re moving farther away from the truth and closer toward the world. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever! It’s the world that is moving in the wrong direction. It’s only going to get darker and darker. Let’s keep our eyes fixed on Him, the author and perfector of our faith. The Word says, “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people" (2 Timothy 3:1-5). “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20, ESV). There might be several of you that don’t know this about me so I thought I’d share a fun fact: When I was in 8/9th grade the Lord had me check out a book from the library that was called the Joy of Signing. I had no idea why, but I consumed as much of it as I could. Then when I was in my junior year of high school we had a local pageant that fed into Miss Texas and into Miss America. I had a lady approach me to be in it ~ but I had no talent…..then the Lord told me I did. So my talent was expressive sign language. Of course that helped me stand out. I got first runner up & stopped at that. But I used my talent at churches, in Christmas productions at our civic center & even helped out at a local elementary school that mainstreamed deaf kids. Then I had kids & life got busy so I just set it aside. God nudged me a few months ago about it. I’m so glad He did. I always feel His anointing when I use it the way He says to. My son with Autism and IDD doesn’t know how to read (yet), but he KNOWS his name. So, when I put my Prayer Board up, he walked in and smiled because he knew I was praying for him. You know who else knows his name? God! Andrew has been surrounded by believers wherever he’s gone to school. Teachers who will pull him aside and pray for him when he’s having a tough day. PRAYER Some people have a prayer journal. Others a prayer notebook. I asked my husband if we could put a Prayer Board in our master bedroom — a little unconventional, but that’s where I felt God told me to put it so I see it every day. Here’s the thing — when we had a dream of ours die, it took me to a really hard place. I became apathetic about praying. I had a “que sera, sera” attitude about everything. Prayer became mechanical if I prayed at all! But let me tell you, prayer is an intimate encounter with the Living God Who longs for His will to be on earth as it is in heaven. And He chooses us and our prayers to make that happen. I’m in a covenant relationship with Him. If I miss the mark, He has full freedom to course correct me. Until then, I’m going to pray for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven in specific situations and the burdens He entrusts me to carry, and I’m going to fervently pray (give birth) to what God’s put in my heart. Until I receive a “no,” then I’m going to be that resolute with it. It’s not a vision board where if I pray hard enough, I’ll “manifest” my dreams. If I keep what I want in front of me, I’ll get whatever I want. NOPE! It’s a relationship between the Trinity and me that will yield fruit — the kind that has eternal significance that will last beyond me! God has specific answers for specific prayers! Wrestling with God in prayer is a calling we all have. 2 more weeks to the start of countless practices and rehearsals weekly for 3 whole months. Very excited! 🥰 It has been an unbelievable experience that I got selected for both the role of dancer and one of the main female cast after 2 separate auditions that I went for. Truly humbled and honoured at how God uses these auditions to help me thru a difficult moment but also discover the gifting in me that was not lost (dance) and a new found talent that I can inspire and reach out to more people thru this upcoming Christmas production. Eventually, I stepped out of my comfort zone and chose acting over dancing. I believe God has a greater purpose for me as the main cast and I am all ready to be used by Him, glorifying Him by reaching the lost! How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news! PEOPLE PLEASING and the WOMAN WITH A GOD-GIVEN DREAM: Do you struggle with it? I have and still do at times. But let me tell you: It will kill your dream, make you second guess yourself, and cause you to question your ability to hear God. Years ago I started a Bible study at my church in Omaha. One of our early meetings, a couple of the moms came with their kids. They didn’t ask to bring their kids. So, we had nothing set up. But instead of saying something and making them feel bad, I thought the kids would be fine just occupying themselves while we met. I was waiting for the moms to get their kids settled before I started. That’s when one of the moms spoke up and said, “Oh, sorry. We told our kids we would make Valentine’s for school tomorrow before we started. I hope you don’t mind!” 🤪😡😢 “Ummmm……okay, sure!” {cringe} • I acquiesced because I didn’t want to offend them. • I wanted them to be a part of our group. • I wanted them to like me. • I didn’t want to be the bad guy. Gross! My stomach was in knots, and instead of setting some boundaries or finding childcare, I shut the whole thing down. I feel my stomach in knots just remembering those times. 👉🏻 If God has called you to something (and I know He has), just KNOW there will be times when you will be faced with a situation like this. 🔥People won’t always like what you’re doing. • They’ll think you should be a little more flexible and accommodating to their wants. • They’ll ask you to change the time to meet because of their schedule. • They’ll ask you to do worship at the beginning instead of the end. ****************************** You have to know that you know that you know that God has called you. You can sacrifice, accommodate, serve, etc. But you’re also going to have to learn to finesse these situations and not worry about pleasing other people. ****************************** Do you struggle with people pleasing?

I’m AMAZED at how God created the human heart with the capacity to hold both: • Joy and Pain • Disappointment and Hope • Sadness and Thankfulness • Fear and Peace This past week, I’ve held both and continue to do so. It’s in these moments that I know God is near! “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). The veil between this world and the next is SUPER THIN during these seasons of living in dichotomy. We hold that tension of the NOW and the NOT YET. We can only hold it well because He holds us. Let’s hold it well!
Been incredibly humbled with insight into some of the lies tied to performance recently, and the utter necessity of unconditional love. So thankful for the message of grace, which can be painful at times solely because of the necessity to let go of what is contrary to grace and thus against us. If it is truly grace, though, it is not of our works, but His. As Jesus had to be anointed by God's Spirit to do what He did, so do we. 5 Ways We Self-Sabotage the Calling on Our Lives ✨ 1. People pleasing will keep us chasing our tails and unable to keep clear on what pleases Him! ✨ 2. Like putting a puzzle together…we need to have the correct picture of what our calling looks like. God is the ONLY ONE Who has that correct picture. When we put our puzzles together based on what we see everyone else’s picture looks like, we’ll not place the high value on it that it deserves. ✨ 3. Procrastination is really just perfectionism in disguise. We procrastinate because we want to wait til it’s perfect. Perfectionism says, “If I can’t do it perfectly, I won’t do it at all.” ✨ 4. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” God wants us to plan but then to hold those plans loosely. We can’t just sit around and expect results to be delivered to our door like an Amazon package. ✨ 5. At the same time, it’s not all up to us.
