The #historicrockwall on #bigcornisland is something very special that we are honoured to have on our property. It’ll remain in tact and a focal point for visitors to see & hopefully appreciate as much as we do. We realize as caucasian Canadians we can’t possibly know what it was like... but we cherish the stories we are told by locals, whose family members in past generations were once slaves. From what we know, there were 96 or 97 original slaves on the island, and this wall was built as protection and possibly shelter (likely with some type of roofing that no longer exists). We will do our best to honour the heritage and ancestors of the islanders. We have already had locals coming to see it, who are middle aged and have never seen the rock wall even after being born and raised on the island.
