Days 5-14 I’d be lying if I said this didn’t suck. For some reason I thought things would be easier this time around This was planned, not an emergency. I’m otherwise pretty healthy. I’ve had years to prepare myself, my family, my friends I’ve struggled more at home than I did in the hospital, and this is down to not having my pain under control when I was discharged, and not having my stronger painkillers slowly stopped I didn’t quite anticipate the level of mental resilience I would need. I thought this would be a breeze; I’m not adjusting to a new stoma etc etc, but I’m still experiencing huge bodily changes In a matter of days I went from running around, kickboxing, swimming, gigs, to not being able to shower alone. To having almost all independence stripped from me, which has been the hardest part so far I know it won’t last forever, but it’s difficult to remember that in the moment. All I’ve known for 2 weeks is excruciating pain, bed baths, lack of sleep and just general misery, but I HAVE to believe it’ll get better. I KNOW it will I’ve done this before and I can do it again.
