Celebrating #ThrowBackThursday by revisiting an @ibmadison feature from February 2001. The publication's "Follow-Ups" series revisited start-up businesses after 1, 5, 10, and 20 years. This "Year 1" Follow-Up interview with co-founders Jessica & Neil Peters-Michaud revealed a shift in their original business model. After starting Cascade, their expectation for the number of incoming used computers that could be resold (rather than recycled) was much higher than expected. This revelation reshaped Cascade into an asset management company, dedicated to assisting organizations in 'cascading equipment to its next best use.' 🎥Knowing these few basic tips could help improve your video skills A TON. My journalism background taught me to do interviews with people on the fly. As a journalist, you are never supposed to give your interviewee the questions beforehand (this is mostly an ethical rule). By doing interviews on the spot, it allows people to give the most raw, authentic, unscripted response. This is why I usually don't tell people what I'm going to ask beforehand, even now outside of my journalism career... because most people will try to come up with an answer that is not true to their tone, they will try to memorize a script, etc. Memorizing what you WANT to say, fails and comes off inauthentic 99% of the time (I've seen this happen time and time again!) If you want to appear natural on camera, don't stick to a script and don't try to memorize a response. Give me those raw answers that come straight from the heart! Hey there! I wanted to say hi with all the new faces here. I'm Brit - the gal behind this whole 'thing'. Here's a little about the person behind the business 👇 . I didn't grow up on a farm, but after a life-changing class in college I decided I HAD to know how and WHO was raising my meat. Combine that with a obsession with cows and here I am. . I am a designer at heart and needed a way to bring creative energy to the farm, so I started designing with @awellwornstory a product line that would utilize the farm 'waste' (ie. Hides and wool harvested), all our wool and leather goods are crafted in Wisconsin using small-local makers. . I said I'd never own a business because I didn't think I'd ever find something I'd be passionate enough about to push through the hard times. Turns out I found something I just can't quit. . I eat pancakes every day and I've been passing that down to my daughter Maren. If you want to know what fuels our energy that's it. . I'm married to my opposite who helps me and challenges me to think differently and better every day. He runs his own gig with my dad @thewoodcycleofwi .
