In the old days, every Kwara child has a mother or a grandmother with these types of dishes/plates. Some people call it “Abo Ajasse” or “Awo Soyoyo” etc. it’s usually part of the Eru Iyawo, meaning whenever a newly wed bride is going to her husband’s house, these are the dishes she buys to go with. Although, some people just buy it as part of their general dish set. They don’t make them like this anymore, these dish sets feels luxurious unlike what we have now. Are you familiar with these dishes? Tell us your story⬇️ 📸: @_journey_man #instakwara #nostalgia #nostalgic #kwara

“On our way back to Lagos from Ajasse Ipo in Kwara and we saw the Okin Biscuit factory. I don’t even know what to say or where to start to describe the pain I feel seeing the factory so destitute. Okin was a childhood staple. We actually were allowed to get into the factory. The office is still intact with documents in there, the printer, fax machine, all their awards. The factory still has inventory, packaging and a lot of machinery just sitting. What a shame. So much inventory and machinery, bruh. It was listed for sale in 2017 for $20m when it was still functional. Not sure why there weren’t any takers” 📸: X/ sweeegu #instakwara

A Tribute to Major General Tunde Idiagbon, Mr “No-Nonsense”, who announced the War Against Indiscipline WAI scheme in 1984 when he was Nigeria’s De Facto Vice President. War Against Indiscipline (WAI) main 5 objectives to change the attitudinal orientation of Nigerian citizens back in 1984: 1. Queuing in public places. 2. Work Ethic of a Nigerian. 3. Nationalism and Patriotism. 4. Anti-Corruption and Economic Sabotage. 5. Environmental Sanitation. Imagine if we had kept this going 40yrs ago? Imagine a totally different and disciplined generation of Nigerian adults now? This was back then when $100 was just N76. I believe this is where we LOST the plot in Nigeria. Regardless of any change in government, military or democratic, we should have kept War Against Indiscipline going! x/ayoshonaiya #instakwara #nigeria #ilorin #fgn

We put out a poll on our IG story asking if anyone would eat foods served in a clay dish/pot🥣. About 1200 people said YES✅, while a few 107 said No❌. Things like plates, mixing bowls, pie plates, and casserole dishes are often made of clay. Pottery is one of the oldest human invention and it’s still used till date in most part of the world. Kwara state is home to Nigeria’s best potters, and Ilorin for its artistic pottery. 📌 Slide 1: a restaurant in Ilorin servings in a black pottery ware. 📌Slide 2: some pottery wares from the Dada pottery, Ilorin. 📌Slide 3: the question put out on the IG story. #instakwara #pottery

Kwara state is home to a large numbers of weavers. Originally, the fabric was worn for special occasions such as weddings, feasts, and other major events. It was seen as a prestige symbol, and the more ornate the design, the more prestigious the wearer. Aso-oke has undergone numerous transformations and adaptations over its history. Aso oke is a hand woven cloth, usually woven by both men and women. The fabric is used to make men's gowns, called agbada and hats, called fila, as well as women's wrappers, called iro and head tie, called gele. Kwara state has a long history of this textile manufacture. With Aso Oke, Many people are unaware of its history and cultural significance, and it is frequently dismissed as simply another African cloth. Yet, Aso-oke is much more than that. It reflects Africa's rich cultural heritage. 📸: @theurbanmindset #instakwara #asooke

Talk about Women Excellence💫in Kwara state. That’s Amina Ahmed El-Imam, Kwara state commissioner of health that we all know. But that’s not the story. The other woman is Kwara state’s first television announcer, Moji Makanjuola MFR. she’s a health reporter and journalist who’s decades work in the field has contributed significantly to the improvement and development of Nigerian journalism especially in the area of health. She is a one time president of the Nigerian association of women journalists. “Aunty Moji” as she’s fondly called was also influential in correcting the perspective of vaccines cynics in Nigeria with her skillful reporting. #instakwara #womeninhealthcare #wcw #womenempowerment #women #kwarastate

You must have heard OWONIBOYS if you reside in Ilorin. Also, you must know OWONIBOYS if you’re a lawyer in Nigeria, any Law School graduate can testify. The reason why the latter is, is because the OWONIBOYS TECH v. UNION BANK OF NIGERIA is one of the favorites cases in Nigeria law school. ⬇️ In 1973, Union bank granted Owoniboys an overdraft facility in the sum of N50,000. The facility was increased in 1976 to N100,000 and subsequently to N200,000. As collateral to the loan facility, Owoniboys mortgaged its property situate at Oja-Iya, Taiwo Road, Ilorin. Before then when the first loan facility was made available to Owoniboys, it duly obtained the consent of the Kwara State Governor to mortgage the property to the Union Bank. There was however a failure of repayment by the Owoniboys of the facility granted. Union Bank, sometime in 1988 made a demand for the repayment. As Owoniboys did not comply, Union Bank then advertised for the sale of the mortgaged property. As a result of that action taken by Union Bank, Owoniboys sought to restrain them from selling the said property through a motion ex-parte. This was granted by the learned trial Judge on the 22nd of April, 1992. This whole story birthed the “Owoniboys V Union Bank (2003)” case. Any Nigerian Law graduate can further explain. 📸: @boluwa_tife._ #instakwara

Who Remembers this wonder-kid? One of the many misconceptions about him was that he’s from Ilorin as he was a poster boy for every Qoidat or “Tira” back then. 😂 His name is Sharif-uddin Khalifa, who was born in Tanzania in 1993 in a Catholic home. But his family disclosed that at the age of 4 months, he started reciting verses in the Quran, without being taught. One of the countries he visited to deliver a sermon was The Gambia. Thousands thronged the Independence Stadium including senior government officials and members of the Supreme Islamic Council to listen to his sermon. The miracle boy later withdrew from the limelight after allegations that his story was an elaborate scam to hoodwink Muslims across the globe. Sheriff-Uddin later moved to The Gambia in 2007 to start a new life. He was "adopted" by a Gambian he met online following the death of his parents. #instakwara

True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. How many of us ever used this? ☝🏽 Water Well, locally called Konga is the oldest way to access water. It is created by digging or drilling the ground. The water is drawn up by containers, such as water bags or buckets that are raised by hands. Kwara state because of its geographical location and its water problems is one of the states in Nigeria with the most water-wells. 📸: @latunji_ #instakwara
