Every five years, residents who live in the Bromo-Semeru mountain area in Probolinggo, East Java Indonesia or commonly known as the Tengger Tribe hold the "Unan-Unan" ritual to cleanse the village of evil spirits. Apart from that, this tradition has been carried out for generations to maintain natural harmony and express gratitude to the gods and ancestors. The ceremony begins with slaughtering a buffalo, the day before the ritual is carried out. After being slaughtered, the buffalo head is placed in a container and decorated in such a way and paraded by the residents to the "Sanggar" where the gods and ancestors are worshiped. The buffalo head was then buried with various offerings in the "Sanggar" area, while the meat was distributed to all residents to be buried in each resident's agricultural land. This is in the hope of a plentiful harvest. The book does more than just offer a biography and building list; it also provides the context of Gonda’s life in Shanghai, drawing from letters and diaries of those who lived in Shanghai at the time, and using archival material to provide detailed descriptions of the buildings at the time of construction. Gonda: Shanghai’s Ultramodern Hungarian Architect based on An Ultramodern Hungarian Architect in Shanghai – Károly Gonda’s Art of Building by Eszter, edited by Livia Szentmartoni and Andras Krizsa. The book does us a great service in identifying Gonda’s buildings, many of them landmarks, showcasing his innovative style. The funeral procession for Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca passes through the far north side Chicago neighborhood of Edgewater on the way to the slain CPD member’s funeral in nearby Andersonville. Fellow member of the Chicago police department, local residents and those working in the neighborhood stopped to watch the procession. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, alderman for the 48th Ward, stood among her constituents recording the somber occasion. Luis Huesca, a six year veteran of the CPD, was shot and killed on his way home from work on April 21, 2024. He had been a member of the Area 2 Priority Response Team. ******** ©Meredith M. These photos are from my final project that I did for my VJP 333 (Studio Lighting) class. We had to photograph a portrait series consisting of five pictures themed around one subject. I chose to visually show the effect of some of the more common mental health disorders in college students through studio portrait illustrations. These included severe depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, anorexia nervosa, severe anxiety disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
