Taking stock of what we know about treating a specific cancer is an important part of evidence-based care. While our clinicians are constantly learning from each other and staying up to date with new research findings as they are published, period reviews of the literature are an important tool for collating evidence from across the world. Chris O’Brien Lifehouse (@chris_obrien_lifehouse) Clinician Researcher and Director of Head and Neck Surgery, Professor Carsten Palme (@carstenepalme), has recently co-authored a review of primary management of operable locally advanced oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. The international research team reviewed the literature and sought input from a range of experts, and concluded that the management strategy for this specific cancer type should be determined in a multidisciplinary setting with an emphasis on tumour control, preserving the patient’s oral functioning, and of course, quality of life. Irish dignitaries were guests of the Consul General of Ireland Sarah Mangan, meeting with President of Ireland Micheal D Higgins following the delivery of the inaugural Dr John Kennedy lecture series. As part of our IoE staff day, we were treated by our visiting Bolashak scholars to a wonderful lunch! They brought in traditional Kazakh food for us to try and serenaded us with beautiful, popular songs including their national anthem. Prof. Kapil Tahlan, Department of Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, along with Prof. N.K. Navani, Dean of Academic Affairs, IITR visited the International Relations Office and interacted with Prof. Vimal Srivastava (Dean IR). Their visit was focused on exploring collaboration opportunities between our institutions, with discussions centering around joint research projects, academic exchanges, and faculty development programs. On Tuesday, we had a visit at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, to provide the team with an in-depth understanding of the current medical background in Hong Kong, to share and present more on our system regulation, particularly in our nursing landscape to allow better preparation of the projects. 🏥 🙌 We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Fitzpatrick for her visit and the warm reception and valuable insights shared by the team at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. Meeting the authorities was another highlight of the visit, we had very pleasant talk about our views and future hopes. Недавно вернулся с семинара в Северо-Западном университете сельского и лесного хозяйства (NWAFU). Университет в котором я обучался долгих четыре года. Мы обсуждали устойчивое развитие сельского хозяйства в рамках инициативы «Один пояс один путь». Исследователи из Казахстана, Китая и России представляли свои работы и обменом знаний. Обмен опытом был максимально честным. Откровенно наша научная среда в Казахстане действительно отстает от международных коллег, даже от наших ближайших соседей из России. Это заставляет задуматься о многих фундаментальных проблемах, которые у нас есть, и которые мы должны решить. Но мне радостно видеть, как молодое поколение исследователей прилагает усилия, чтобы идти в ногу с современными требованиями. Они принимают новые стандарты и типы мышления, что является ключом к улучшению жизни и науки в Казахстане.
