This morning it was exciting to dust off my old teaching hat, and be a presenter for our local middle school’s 8th grade career fair! I had 4 groups of about 15 students for 20 minutes and had the opportunity to tell them all about what it’s like to be a realtor. Of course the former teacher and Canva lover in me had to create a little handout to send along with them (how cute are they?!) It was a fast-paced and fun morning, and I hear there is an opening back in my old stomping grounds .. but no way, I think an hour with students was more than enough for me🤣 and I absolutely loving this career path of helping buyers and sellers! That being said, I am a helper at heart and I do love to teach and explain things .. so I am thankful that in this role those former skills and passions were able to translate over to allow me to keep doing just that. 🏡🥰

If there’s one thing about me .. I’m going to absolutely snap a thumbs up selfie before going on a panel 🤣 #noshame This afternoon I was on a panel with three other agents for an Iowa Realty class. The main topic was discovering and acting on your W H Y ... with Simon Sinek’s book “Start with Why” being at the forefront. I’ve gone on a big journey of discovering my why. I said in the class how I think for some people a certain “why” is so obvious and natural to them .. but for many, there is a period of discovery and self-reflection in searching for that elusive “why” that drives you. If something doesn’t immediately come to mind, that’s OK! When I took the same class I remember thinking I STILL don’t really know how to define what drives me.” I feel like “finding your why” is so overstated it’s easy to tune out when you hear that phrase and just respond with a “yeah yeah yeahhhh.” But, I did decide to spend some time at the beginning of this year on my “why” and determined I am driven by helping people see possibilities they might not have otherwise seen, encouraging them to boldly act on them, and holding their hand along the way. I ended up writing out my “why” and came up with this: “My mission is to ignite the spark of possibility within individuals, empowering them to realize that their goals ARE within reach. I am committed to being a steadfast cheerleader who encourages and supports those who boldly pursue their desires in real estate transactions or aspirations beyond.” I have grown so much these past several years, that I want to take people on that same journey. To drop kick fear in the face. Take risks. Get uncomfortable. Take the first step. Because I know that journey. I get it. I’m right there with you. Finally, once you know who you are and what drives you .. go unashamedly ALL IN. “People buy people.” Lots of people sell the same product & services, that’s the reality, but at the end of the day people are choosing a PERSON to work with (or company/brand to support). Be authentic. Be you. God gave you a certain voice, a certain passion, a certain VIBE for a reason. Press into it. ❤ And, that concludes today’s novel by Ashley.

It’s time to bring 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐡. I just love the look and character of a big ole front porch on older homes. I read a blog once about how 𝐰𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐤. This can be seen literally with less homes having front porches (the pictured front porches are all homes currently on the market & I did a search of homes built in 1900-1940 to find them) ... but the concept can also be taken metaphorically as we’ve become more isolated as a society. We tend to insulate our homes to keep the outside world out and end up becoming more reclusive and less social in the process. I remember a house I lived at in college was an older home with a huge front porch on a pretty busy college street and we absolutely LOVED sitting out there and chatting with people .. especially at night when drinks were flowing.😆 But seriously, it was a blast to chat with passerbys or just hang on the porch with someone who dropped by for a visit. In historic architecture the front was an important part of the house. It served as a transition between the public space of the sidewalk and the private space of the home’s interior. It was a buffer zone where we still felt safe to sit, but people passing by could speak to us or even come into without feeling intrusive. The front porch was originally designed to be sat upon. Unlike the fake porch on most housing today, there was room for chairs and actual people instead of just being a holding place for decorations. A commenter on that blog post said they actually moved to their current neighborhood because of the vibe they saw in the “porch culture” and they wanted to be a part of it. Porch culture. I love that. Regardless of whether you have a big front porch or not, we can all make it a point to get out and about (beyond the realm of social media) and socialize in the metaphorical front porches of our world. Ya’ll. 10/10 recommend booking a room at Hotel Pommier and enjoying yourself a little local vacayyyy! We stopped by Hy-Vee for some snacks and brewskis (hy-vee sushi & our go-to limearita/miller light combo were on the menu) and then headed to the hotel and checked in about 6 o’clock. The hotel and rooms were decorated so cute .. and “such a vibe” as the kids say. Our kiddos loved the two full-sized bunk beds our room had and also the Roku TVs so they can “watch whatever they want on YouTube” lol. I loved that the TVs marketed our #experienceindianola tourism initiative and how amazing Indianola is! We quickly headed out to the patio and set up shop with apps and bevvy’s. The patio is SOOO cute and cozy .. especially loved when it got darker and the string lights came on! The kids played with legos and Justin and I made sure everyone on Jefferson Ave. could enjoy some of our top notch dance moves (do it for the gram). The kiddos ultimately got hungry for more than apps, so we hopped over to Mickey D’s for kid’s meals and then the boys went up to the room and they thought it was soooo cool to be big boys upstairs by themselves. Justin and I (and Etta) hung out on the patio literally until almost 11 o’clock just enjoying the ambiance and listening to tunes probably too loudly. Ultimately, we went up only to then decide we were also hungry so I hopped over to T Bell for some crunchwrap supremes and tacos at ohhhhh probably 11:30. We finally crashed and then woke up in the AM and headed down to breakfast. Pancakes, mini cinnamon rolls, and biscuits and gravy were just a few items on the menu. We had a blast and the kids had the time of their lives. After church today Freddie goes, “wait, we aren’t going back to the hotel??” haha. Next time, I’d love to be better planned and pair this little outing with some local shopping and activities and order in some local food (I was planning on crab rangoons and pizza from Winn’s but we were having so much fun the time just got away from me). Anyways .. if you are looking for a fun little night to spice things up .. orrr you have friends coming into town .. def book a room at Hotel Pommier! You’ll love it! ❤
