The festival of Pir Shalyar is a traditional Kurdish festival that has ancient roots. It is held on the 40th day of winter in Hawraman Takht, a village in the foothills of the Zagros Mountains of the Kurdistan province in western Iran.  The annual festival takes place in early February, in three phases. In the first phase, the village children collect walnuts from Pir Shalyar’s garden and take them from door to door, giving them to the families to announce the coming celebration. The people in the houses give them sweets and treats in return. On this same day, brothers visit sisters, and nephews visit aunts, bringing them walnuts and sweets as gifts. On a certain Wednesday morning before sunrise, sheep, goats, and cattle are brought to the door of Pir Shalyar’s house (which still stands). At sunrise they are sacrificed. During the day, their meat is used to make a large traditional soup, called Ash, following a 950-year-old recipe. While some villagers prepare the soup, other villagers participate in a ritualistic dance, hand in hand, to a mystical rhythm. Musicians play the Daf, a large frame drum. Children watch from the rooftops as houng and old dervishes sway to the rhythm of the daf, a traditional frame drum, their long hair flying in the freezing air of the midwinter. This ceremony continues into the evening. During the festival, each family has an assigned task. Some cook the soup, others play Daf, and others perform the dance ritual. These roles have continued for centuries, inherited from ancestors. #pirshalyar 🫶🏼 kinda like Valentine’s Day… More in stories #adinezine #iranart #iranianculture Sources: @sina_jahanbin7 @yol_bir @fatmacelik_fate @farid_salehpoor #nyckurdishculturalcenter @edris.photoes @moeid_rostamzada

Vigen Derderian 🤍 Iran’s first male Pop Star #iranianartists #adinezine Born in Hamedan in 1929, ‘the Sultan of Pop’ left an inedible mark on Iran’s music scene. One of the first Iranian entertainers to perform with a guitar. And despite leaving Iran before the ‘79 Revolution, his music continued to resonate, reaching millions through the black market. Coming from Iran’s minority Armenian Christian community, Vigen sang in both Farsi and Armenian, showcasing the rich diversity of his roots. He was often compared to Elvis Presley (Ngl he is super khoshtip) and in that era - at the height of his popularity- he was featured in movies and shows internationally. In 1968, the Beatles (inspired by eastern philosophy and music) traveled to India. Paul McCartney decided to spend a few days in Tehran and during his private visit, he wanted to meet Iranian Pop Musicians and listen to their performances. Swipe to see images of him hanging out with Vigen and his older brother Karo - a poet - smoking hookah together in Tehran. Vigen’s last wish was to return to Iran and perform for his vast & diverse audience. To this day, his music lives on in new movies, series, and yes even in remakes on TikTok… 🕊️🫶🏼 #vigenderderian Sources: @vigen.derderian @mehdi_plv @taraneh.ghadimi

In January 2020, a former brewery reopened as the first contemporary art museum (Since the Revolution) in Tehran, the Argo Factory. Realized by New York based Architect Ahmadreza Schricker #iranianart #adinezine #tehranmuseum Swipe to see the before and after, iincluding the concept image (last slide) for the transformation of the Argo Factory into a contemporary art museum presented by Architect Ahmadreza Schricker, who spearheaded the project. 'Schricker has had to face down problems few other museum architects ever consider. When documenting the project remotely from his home in the Netherlands, acclaimed architecture photographer Iwan Baan decided to deploy illegal drones to capture bird’s-eye images of the building. Security forces in this neighborhood in particular proved to be extra zealous. “Two of the drones were intercepted by antidrone bots,” Schricker recalls. Nonetheless, the team persisted and completed the shoot. “The bird’s eye view was very important to me, because Argo is probably the only known building in Tehran that has windows on the roof, and no HVAC. Now you can see it in all its glory.” Read the rest of the article via Pin Up Magazine. #argofactory #tehranartmuseum #tehranart #tehranarchitecture

At Ādinè we celebrate Iranian artists connecting all of us worldwide while also transcending generations. We posted a flashback in stories last week and many of you loved the nostalgia. So it’s only fair to dedicate an entire post to the one & only Shahram Shabpareh 🫶🏼 #iranianartists #adinezine ‘He started his career as a drum player in the early 1960s when he was 13. In the mid-1960s at the age of 17, he formed a band of his own named “Rebels”. He was a member of Black Cats from 1964 to 1979, which was started by his brother Shahbal Shabpareh. He embarked a solo career starting in the 70s. After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Shahram, who had migrated to California a few years earlier, did not have the opportunity to return to his homeland. Since then, he has been living in the United States. With a career spanning 50 years, he is a popular Iranian artist and has toured all over the world while also a judge on Persian Talent Shows.’ (Source Wiki) There is soooo much in here - of past times, styles, adjustments, inspirations, needs… if any of these actors are seeing this, dm us :) would love to connect & get to know you… and if you grew up listening to Shahram, sing along… esp that intro part 🤗😂🥰
