We are Coastbusters, a team of 5 staff from Cardiff School of Art & Design taking part in a virtual challenge to travel the Wales Coast Path in add of Maggie’s Centres. Together we will walk, run, cycle and otherwise exercise the equivalent of 1303km, in honour of our dear friend and now retired colleague, Richard Morris. Anyone who had the pleasure of working with Richard will remember him as a fun and enthusiastic workmate. Totally dedicated to our School and its students, Richard always had a kind word and a listening ear when you needed it, and plenty of Dad jokes whether you needed them or not! It is now a privilege to be able to raise money for a charity which has supported Richard and his family during his illness, and we will post updates on our progress as we travel virtually around our beautiful coastline. Fushimi Inari is the most important of several thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Foxes are thought to be Inari’s messengers, resulting in many fox statues across the shrine grounds. Fushimi Inari Shrine has ancient origins, predating the capital’s move to Kyoto in 794. At the shrine’s entrance stands the Romon Gate, which was donated in 1589 by the famous leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Behind stands the shrine’s main hall (honden) where all visitors are encouraged to pay respect to the resident deity by making a small offering. At the very back of the shrine’s main grounds is the entrance to the torii gate-covered hiking trail, which starts with two dense, parallel rows of gates called Senbon Torii (“thousands of torii gates”). The torii gates along the entire trail are donations by individuals and companies, and you will find the donator’s name and the date of the donation inscribed on the back of each gate. I've been feeling like taking a quick flight recently. Unfortunately, thats not possible at this time, and even though Milan 🇮🇹 is loading, I really wanted to be elsewhere for a mental reset. So yesterday evening I said to myself, jump in the car and drive somewhere in the morning, take in a sunrise and get some steps in. Brighton was the closest place I could think of without having to research. So I got there at 5:30am, the weather was raining heavily when I arrived, saying that by the time I parked up the rain stopped and some areas were overcast. It felt good to have the entire beach to just stop and stare out to the ocean and walk along the seafront. As I left, the town was waking up, groups of joggers, people playing volleyball and dogs being walked by their doting humans. I'm going to male a habit of this walking before the world starts getting crazy. Taking action feels great. I wanted to make an "Elf on a shelf" joke but not big headed enough to go with "Ledge on an edge" and didnt like options that rhymed with "rock"!.... 👀😂 Last weekend was epic and intense in 2 days we did Satalaia Ibiza's highest point on the Saturday for a great charitable cause. Sunday we followed it up with "Despiste" an exciting scramble including sections on fixed ropes and then finished with another roped scramble/hike to "Ses Balandres". This shot sums it up, 200 metres high directly above the route! El pasado fin de semana fue épico e intenso, en 2 días alcanzamos el punto más alto de Satalaia Ibiza el sábado por una gran causa solidaria. Dan was het terug tijd om naar huis te gaan, onze geliefde stad brugge 🥲😅, kleine 25 kilometer was dan ook een aangename stapje op deze route, alle taferelen die bij elkaar kwamen klopte ook wel 🌳🌞
Wandeling begon bijna op ze einde te lopen, vanuit het bos kwam ik aan op een domein waar er alle soorten dieren zaten te knabbelen en te relaxen 🌞
