A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of talking to Rain Phoenix. Besides being a wonderful musician and actress, Rain is also the host of a podcast called “Launch Left” where she asks an array of interesting questions of her guest artists. Toward the end of the show the said guest can throw the spotlight on another artist of their choosing. On this weeks show, the 150th episode, my friend Jonathan Richman talks about how music found him, the radio and color and Eros and purity and a number of other things and even offers up some good advice. He then points the light on me and I talk with Rain about my record The Hands of Time. I also talk about how music found me, and I was happy to see Rain knew what I was talking about. In 1995 he studied at the Northwest Film Center, and worked on the films “Don’t Leave Me Georgetown”, “Elephant” and was a writer on “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot” directed by Gus Van Sant. Starting in 2018, Jack worked alongside Dick and Daniel Johnston researching the artists extensive archive of music, art and notebook writings and begin developing the multimedia project titled “Don’t Be Scared”. In 2020, his musical project Tenlons Fort, released the album “Sober October” on LaunchLeft. We’re having a @pulparts LOVE fest, join us and hear about a few of the things they got up to in 2023. Slide 1: @e.galbicka continued to refine his Terrazzo process this year. He shipped and installed a wide variety of new pieces. Slide 2: Friends old and new. @animalprince_ and @nicolemiglis_ worked on material while they were in town for the @diondiarecs Big Show. We also welcomed Peter Pan to the fold. Slide 3: We were honored to be part of these incredible records from L’rain (@turrelljames) and Mutual Benefit (@mutebenny) this year. Slide 4: We hosted two @1beatmusic residency programs in 2023. We worked with nearly 50 musicians in the process, cohosted multiple concerts and activations throughout Gainesville, and produced 10 straight to tape live session videos. Slide 5: DeSean “CEO Dee” Thompson (@golegitEntertainment) has been working in the studio with us since day one. DeSean is a keystone in Gainesville’s Hip Hop community. Keep your eye on what they’re doing. Slide 6: Our container suites were buzzing with activity throughout the year. @jonacat is shown here prototyping new furniture builds. 2024 is the year of partnership & collaboration for LaunchLeft and we’re kicking it off by sharing about our friends at @pulparts. Pulp Arts is an interdisciplinary arts hub in Gainesville, Florida that is centered around a state of the art Recording Studio with two unique rooms. Their lush campus is defined by the lush ecological art of Evan Galbicka, shipping containers, and a warehouse for metal and woodworking fabrication. Their team has worked with artists like Lonnie Holley, Hayden Pedigo, Half Waif, L’Rain, Luke Temple, and incredible non-profits like the One Beat.
