⠀ It's Sunday so time to set aside another stack of random albums for some extending listening.⠀ ⠀ This week's highlights include one of the last great soundtracks for me. Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette is a regular favourite of mine because it blends indiepop of the 2000s with classic postpunk/new wave delights against some wonderful instrumental pieces.⠀ ⠀ I was obsessed with The Pipettes debut when it came out. Just great unabashedly pop earworms with killer hooks, infectious melodies and just an all-round good time vibe. Nothing intellectual, just big dumb fun.⠀ ⠀ Felt's Gold Mine Trash is an essential collection of the band's career highlights distilled. Together with its companion Bubblegum Perfume, they're a shortcut introduction to what made the band legends.⠀ ⠀ Big Star's Third is for me the band's finest work despite it not making a dent on its initi release. For me, Alex Chilton took the band's power pop sound and just transformed them into this ethereal rock band. An inspiration to generations of later acts from This Mortal Coil to Teenage Fanclub.⠀ ⠀ Cornelius had a brief flirt with mainstream pop at the turn of the millennium. This album sees him in more reflective mood but yet still losing none of his pop touch. Also features a cameo from Miki Berenyi from Lush for good measure.⠀ ⠀ Finally, a lost gem I play a lot is Timmy Thomas' Why Can't We Live Together. A sublime funk soul record that is packed with unique slow grooves and delicious tunes.⠀ ⠀ Hope everyone enjoys my selections today. @the_silver_linings2022 (ES) are an Andalusian psychedelic rock band, formed in Malaga back in 2021. Their music can be understood as a return to the origins of early psychedelica. Back when UFOs were still travelling through outer space and tales of tin-can robots filled our child-like fantasies. 🛸✨ The band draws inspiration from a mix of 20th century sci-fi, art and literature, as well as the diverse Andalusian landscapes.
