The halo seems a bit overkill, mother nature, do you even know this boi? Jk. Kind of. This dog has tested me so much. He is feral, energetic, and honestly THE MOST stubborn & strong-willed dog I have ever met. Fortunately, I am just as much of both. 😏 It took months of working through issue after issue, & he is now a much more consistent dog for it. He is also a dog I can bring anywhere already. He makes me laugh multiple times a day, and has what can only be described as an absolutely insatiable zest for life. I didn't know it at the time, but LBB, with all her issues, equipped me to better handle what I would (& I'm sure still will) encounter with Griffin. LBB had her own challenges, but honestly, some of it doesn't even compare to the red beast. With LBB, I had to open my mind to tools to give her a better life, with Griffin I had to revisit some old teaching, mix in some new stuff, & create a cocktail that was just for him (it even came with an umbrella 🌂). It's normal to struggle. I still do on the reg. Just a grizzly bear on the beach. 🐻 The morning we walked here, in one of my favourite places, we met a very unwell raccoon who had clearly not been well overnight. I was in contact with Hope for Wildlife & DNR, but sadly the raccoon died soon after I was off the phone with them. After speaking with them, & doing some research, I think the raccoon died of distemper. So, the reason I'm sharing this is because (as you all know) I am a huge proponent for off leash reliability before letting dogs off leash. This is why. And again, I don't share these things to gloat, because I know this goal is achievable for everyone. I share it because if they hadn't been reliable, they could have both harassed this poor raccoon in his final moments, as well as contaminated themselves by coming into contact with his respiratory droplets. There are so many reasons for us dog owners to be mindful of letting our dogs off leash, and the one I normally bitch about is because I hate being rushed by offleash dogs who don't listen to their people. However, safety is just as much a priority for me as respecting other humans' and dogs' space. Debbil spawn is 6 months old today. & no, I no longer feel like dropping him off at the gates of hell (where he was hatched).
