I can’t believe it’s been five years since @g_boullosa brought me to Versailles in Saldanha. I’ve had many sad cups of watered-down takeaway coffee from the pastelaria’s airport outpost since then, but I haven’t been back to the original location until quite recently. To be honest, I’m not sure why it’s taken me this long. The space is an absolute treat, with its ornate chandeliers and its proud display case of confections that spans the length of the dining room. Then, of course, there’s the famous chocolate cake. With a fudgy base topped with a rich and luscious ganache, it’s one of the best things to scoop up and devour with a spoon. Created by monks who used leftover egg yolks (after using egg whites to starch their clothes) to make pastries. 📍SANTA NATA | 19 Dirty Lane SE1 9PA 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱: they’re known for their infamous Portuguese pastry. They do also have a small selection of drinks and a donut, which they recommend dunking into their hot choccy. The pastry was delicious, it’s sugary with an eggy custard-like texture. The outside is flaky and light. I’d definitely have it again. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿: the font, colour palette and fancy boxes remind me of Links of London or a fancy hotel foyer. I like that you have a view into the kitchen where the pastries are being continually made. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: the pastries are ready and displayed in a glass unit, so the service was really quick. Pain au Chocolat €2.60 Cinnamon Bun €2.60 Croissant €2.10 Americano €2.00 Found this little gem on the last day of my trip. Can’t be more grateful! I see it I like it I want it. Croissant was absolutely amazing. So flaky so buttery and you can tell from the layer. Pain au chocolat was flaky as well and it was warm! Chocolate inside was still melting. Right amount of chocolate filling so it was not too heavy too much. Cinnamon bun was a bit of surprise. It has a very strong taste of cardamom, but then the staff said it’s a mixture of cinnamon and cardamom. I would say the taste of cardamom was over powered. The bun was good. It was soft and buttery like a Biorche bun. You can enjoy the pastry and coffee at the cute cafe next door. This place is a place you don’t wanna miss.
