Homemade Custard Filling Ingredients: 2 cups whole milk 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup cornstarch 4 large egg yolks 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions: In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is just about to simmer. Dive into this creamy dream tonight! 🍮✨ Ingredients: 2 cups heavy cream 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract) 5 egg yolks 1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus extra for topping Hot water for the baking dish Directions: Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). In a saucepan, heat the cream with the vanilla bean (scrape out seeds and add both seeds and pod to the cream) over medium heat just until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes. If using vanilla extract, add it after removing the cream from heat. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth. I have been really excited to try this brunch for quite some time now and I’m so happy I finally did! We had: - 🥑 Wafu Avocado (with added smoked salmon): A chunky slice of sourdough piled high with creamy avocado, nutty edamame, fresh flavoursome herbs, and a sharp Wafu dressing. This is STUNNING. The salmon was sliced thick and had just right amount of salt and smoke. Worth adding on. - 🍮Crème Brûlée French Toast: A crunchy, buttery, caramelised exterior that leads you into a soft vanilla heaven in the centre. The berries are a nice touch, offering a different juicy sweetness to round the dish out. Everything is delicate and detailed; from the latte art, to the placement of individual herbs, to the pour of cold creamy custard. We finished our plates and wanted to eat it all over again. And I’m sure I will be doing that soon: I’m eyeing up some poached eggs.
