Sitting in my beach villa, I'm still not ready to leave this island yet. So sitting here with a beer and reviewing some of the more than 2000 images I have taken over the last week. I managed to eke out one more coral reef image from my dive yesterday. I've even managed to get some tropical fish in on the act this time. The reef was teaming with huge diversity of life. My last lunch looking out over the Indian Ocean. The vegetarian and vegan food here was out of this world. I managed to garner a couple of recipes from the chefs here and I will put them to the test when I get home. I see one big problem in that though. Buongiogro z pięknego citta blanca, Locorotondo! 🇮🇹 Bardzo się cieszę, że właśnie tam zdecydowaliśmy się na nocleg, a nawet 2! Myśleliśmy też o Ostuni, ale Locorotondo było dla nas lepszą bazą wypadową na wycieczki (bliżej z Matery, na trasie powrotnej Alberobello, a do Ostuni niecałe pół godziny). To miasteczko to mój numer 2 na liście tego wyjazdu, tuż za Materą. Położone na wzgórzu, mury centro storico tworzą okrąg. Niezwykłe zadbane, czyste. Kocham klimat tych uliczek, które są pełne donic z kwiatami, opuncjami, jukami. Co ciekawe, w Locorotondo nie widziałam prania rozwieszonego nad ulicą! A to taki charakterystyczny południowy widok. Na pewno chciałabym tu wrócić w okresie Bożego Narodzenia, kiedy miasteczko jest przepięknie ozdobione. My last shot for tonight. It's nearly 11pm here and I'm trying to eke out as much time as possible whilst I am here. Tomorrow is my last full day. Time seems to have flown by!! I guess it does for everyone on holiday. In 48 hours I will be back in the cold, wet weather that is spring in the UK now. This is the walkway to the bar. I seem to be the "last man standing" There are very few guests here on the island at the moment because it's out of season. If the Maldives has a season. I wasn't trying to capture The Milky Way again, but you can just make it out. Lucky I guess. There is coral all over the foreshore and I'm saddend to say during my dive there was quite a bit of coral bleaching. Coral bleaching occurs when the climate heats the ocean up by just 1 degree. Even although there is dead coral on the beach, it is illegal to take it away with you as a souvenir. I cannot believe it's Friday already! I have just one full day left here. Time seems to have flown by. Today I went scuba diving. 50% of the beauty in the Maldives is to be found underwater on the hundreds of coral reefs that fringe all the separate islands. I splashed out $50 USD to hire an underwater camera to do some reef photography/ It's really hard!! It's been 2 years since I last went diving so I was struggling with my buoyancy and holding the camera still. I took the best part of 200 images in just 30 minutes. Taken as the sun was just setting on the far side of the island. The light from the sun created this beautiful golden tone to the scene and I can feel the warmth of the onshore breeze in the image. I only have 2 days left here in this idyllic location and I feel I have only just scratched the photo opportunities that are available here. I'm going for a dive tomorrow because more than 50% of the beauty that is the Maldives is to be found underwater on the numerous coral reefs that are teaming with tropical fish. I qualified as a PADI diver way back in 2005 and I only ever dive when I'm in tropical waters. I'm not a fan of cold water diving.
