In honor of Sukkot, our Upper Schoolers took part in an Edible Sukkah building competition! Upper School students built Sukkot out of graham crackers, pretzel sticks, sour sticks, and cereal. The most creative (yet kosher!) Sukkah was awarded to a group of 10th-grade girls including Eliana Goldenholz, Jenna Pultman, Dina Wagner, Maya Hefetz, Mimi Fischer, and Becca Gold. They cut windows into their sukkah and added indoor furniture! Runner up was Avi Abbett whose sukkah featured an adjacent, outdoor bathroom. #maimomoments #sukkot #ediblesukkah

In connection with their curricular study of Yirmiyahu Chapter 18, the Juniors in Morah Ora Weinbach's class explored the Yom Kippur Piyyut "Hinei kachomer byod hayotzer," "Like clay in the hands of the potter," which is based on imagery from this chapter. First, they studied the imagery, structure, and theological implications of the piyyut. Then, each student authored their own original stanza which will be compiled into a contemporary piyyut and shared with the class. Finally, students got their hands dirty! They made their own pottery in order to physically experience this timeless metaphor for teshuva. #maimomoments #pottery

On Tuesday the 8th grade went to the State House and learned about its different artwork and features, as well as the history of the building and the city. Towards the end of the tour, the students saw hundreds of flags from each of the cities and towns in Massachusetts, and found the flags of the cities that they live in.
