The Chor Minor in Bukhara, Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 Off the beaten path a bit and hidden behind twisting alleys, the Chir Minor is the gate house for a madrassa that no longer stands. The four posted tower is a beautiful example of early 19th century Bukharan architecture and art. Inside, there is a shop, and it is possible to get to the roof. Pictured in color by Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii, whose photos can be found in the Library of Congress, is the last Emir of Bukhara Sayyid Mir Muhammad Alim Khan. During Prokudin-Gorskii's travels he was able to photograph many people and places. Among his most memorable photos of people were the two of Emir Alim Khan. The Emir of Bukhara was a member of the Manghit dynasty which claimed descent from the Mongols who settled in modern day Uzbekistan. The dynasty had overthrown the previous one in 1747 ruling behind the scenes until 1785. Alim Khan had come to power in 1911 after his father Said Abd al-Ahad Khan died. Alim Khan originally came to the throne as a reformer but when he saw it as threatening his rule he reverted to traditional autocratic rule. It was relatively recently after his ascension to power that these photos were taken of Alim Khan in his traditional dress. The color brings to life the beauty of the floral designs on his robe. The temporary period of stability that allowed for the photos to be taken would come to an sooner rather than later. In 1917 the Russian Revolution came and with it massive changes. The Young Bukharan Movement, a movement of liberal and many socialist reformers, invited the Tashkent Society to bring the revolution to Bukhara and overthrow Alim Khan. This first poorly executed coup failed miserably leading to the expulsion of the Young Bukharan members and the soldiers of the Tashkent Soviet. In 1920 though the end came for Manghit dynasty and the Emirate of Bukhara. This time an organized unit of the Red Army attacked and successfully laid siege to the Ark of Bukhara. With the loss of his capital Alim Khan fled to neighboring Afghanistan where he would die in exile in 1944.

В начале XX века, побывав в Железноводске и влюбившись в этот тихий, утопающий в зелени, городок, Сеид-Абдул-Ахад-хан, девятый бухарский эмир из узбекской династии Мангытов, решил построить здесь летнюю резиденцию. Николай II выделил ему участок у подножия г. Железной. Дворец был возведен (1907- 1912) гл. архитектором управления КМВ И. И. Байковым и гражданским архитектором В. Ф. Циммерманом по проекту инженера В.Н. Семёнова. Двухэтажная летняя резиденция выполнена в мавританском стиле с элементами модерна. Это каменное здание с вытянутыми резными окнами и деревянными балконами. Главный фасад состоит из прямоугольной башни с балконом минарета, пештака и угловой квадратной башни с куполом и верандой. Мастера Бухары и Хорезма выполнили затейливую резьбу в виде национальных узбекских орнаментов, украсили стены керамическими плитами с растительным орнаментом "арабески". Парадный вход оформлен в виде полукруглой аркады на чугунных колоннах с мавританскими капителями и ступенчатом основании. К нему ведёт каменная лестница в несколько маршей, украшенная скульптурами львов. Резиденция обнесена небольшим ажурным забором из чугуна, с многочисленными художественными узорами, которые напоминают классическую арабскую вязь. В юго-восточной части ограды строители соорудили входной портал с прямоугольным проёмом, в котором раньше висели резные двери. Сверху осталась только надпись, приличествующая этому месту, «Мир входящему».
