With my favorite camera, the Pentax 67, you get 10 frames per roll of film. (Which is about $4-5 per frame…yes every time you release the shutter it costs money, but that’s a different conversation) I am happy if I get 5-6 good shots…my misses usually are from the shot being out of focus, due to the fact it is a manual focus camera from the 1970s with a pretty dark viewfinder. Tbh…imposter syndrome has been hitting me hard lately! It’s challenging to be a photographer / videographer in a time where you see hundreds of photos and videos every day on Instagram and Tik Tok. Sometimes it’s so difficult to not compare myself. To set myself apart. And to believe I’m talented enough at what I do. I set up this shoot with my best friends at Sharks Cove this morning— and I just let myself be creative! I played with the light, I made up random prompts I’ve never used, and I just let it flowwww 🌊🌊🌊 It’s empowering to think that NO ONE in the world can see something with my creative eye, just me! Every photographer documents beauty in their own natural and creative way. And that’s the beauty of it. Photography and videography are beautiful forms of art, and we all have something different to bring to the drawing table. A true case of the Mondays! My middle boy wasn’t feeling his best this morning, so he’s home - which sent my youngest into a complete spiral. Which was only able to be fixed from a fresh red velvet donut on the way to school. Needless to say my coffee was extra strong this morning + I’m patienty waiting for my puppy to be done w/ his haircut so I can return to nurse duty’s! Alll this to say, my brain is a complete conjumbled mess, AND these two (3s) day needs to be here for everyone to soak in! Pure happiness + magic!!!!! ✨💛🥂

My attempt to create once in a lifetime images for Dani & Adam started the morning of their wedding day while watching the annular solar eclipse. I shot a roll of film throughout the duration of the eclipse. The full extent of the eclipse where the moon perfectly aligned with the sun, creating a “ring of fire” only lasted 4 minutes & 37 seconds. I took a total of 9 frames as I switched cameras in order to shoot 16mm motion picture film as well. After I finished the roll of film I took note of where the 9 frames were, so I could double expose them later with portraits of Dani & Adam. I planned for the eclipse to be in the center of the frame & shot the portraits accordingly, but when I re-loaded the film into my camera for the second time, it didn’t line up the same. As a result, the eclipse ended up in between frames. Also, in that moment, I didn’t realize the progression of the eclipse would match the set of portraits, meaning by the end of the set of portraits the eclipse would be full…I guess film just knows how to make the magic! . Not sure if this explanation was necessary or a #nophotoshop hashtag would have been sufficient😂 In the end, I created one of a kind images that I couldn’t ever replicate even if I tried. Although I can’t wait to shoot my next eclipse, I’ve got more ideas I’d like to experiment with🤓 .
