A little care and action goes a long way. We are blessed to be so close to the beach and never take this for granted. This week, our students and staff worked together on our student-led beach clean initiative. 'The dedication, enthusiasm, and positivity of the students who participated was contagious! Not only did the students have a great time outdoors, they successfully collected over 1300 pieces of rubbish that littered our local beach!' - Carli, Environment Captain 2023. All our students love and appreciate the beautiful environment that surrounds our school, as the beach is often central to learning activities. This is why it is so important to our students and staff that we respect and preserve the environment around us and the wider community. #MentoneGirlsGrammar

Last Friday, we earned the opportunity to compete in the GSV Division 1 Track & Field Championships at Lakeside Stadium. It was a beautiful sunny day with perfect conditions and a sense of occasion in the air. Our girls met nice and early at school as we headed into Albert Park with a nice mix of nerves and excitement throughout the group. Coming into our first-ever Division 1 Championships, we came in with a qualifying rank of 7th out of the 8 Schools participating. Our girls did brilliantly taking it up to the other schools. For the most part of the day, we were sitting in 5th place as results were tallied. At the conclusion of the day, we came in an exceptional 6th place which is a huge achievement and shows that we are good enough to compete at that level. There were many highlights, including some great success in the relays: - Year 9A - 4 x 100m Relay Win - Year 12A - 4 x 100m Relay Win Well done to all the girls across the squad who competed and supported across the prelims and champs. We have two final Track & Field events to come with the Vic All Schools Relay Champs this Wednesday for our Y7 and Y9 4x100m teams and, finally the GSV Finals Evening on the 5 September for those individuals that have qualified. More information to come. Another big thank you to the coaching/support team (Jo Linford, Kate Wilcock, Jess Welford, Cath Woodruff) lead by Mr Michael Lawrence. #MentoneGirlsGrammar

🎉Nationals 2023 in Adelaide was a blast! The Aerobics Dance and Glee Squad showed their true Meerkat spirit on stage in every event, strong and mighty fighting for every routine to be their best. The students shone brightly performing their routines with feeling and personality, coming up against what the coaches believe to be the toughest competition we have ever seen. In some sections scores were only separated by 0.05 between each placing. To have a panel of judges scoring and come down to the smallest margins showed how tightly contested each section was. We are immensely proud of every student who stepped on the National stage and gave it their all. Thank you to TFT for a great event and all the parents and friends who travelled to Adelaide to support the students on the national stage. 🥇🥈🥉 Medal Tally: 17 Gold 12 Silver 8 Bronze Total 37 national medals with many other close rankings #MentoneGirlsGrammar

As part of the PYP unit, ‘Where we are in place and time’ unit, Year 6 students are inquiring into Australian Indigenous culture as well as exploring China’s ancient and modern history, and the impact of both cultures on our lives in the 21st century. This week we went on an excursion to Melbourne City and visited the Melbourne Museum’s ‘First Peoples’ exhibition and the Chinese Museum’s ‘Chinese Inventions and Han Dynasty’ tour. As we enjoyed our guided tour of historical Chinatown, we were treated to a delicious hot lunch of spring rolls, beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice. The lunch was most definitely the highlight of our day in the city but the two museums were fantastic! The PYP (Primary Years Programme) offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding and is a cornerstone of our Junior School International Baccalaureate program. #MentoneGirlsGrammar 🐉

What a thrill some of our students experienced at the Le Mans Race Track recently! As part of our Enterprise Academy’s focus on fuelling curiosity and passion for learning, future mechanical engineers and lovers of all things motorsport encountered first-hand the exhilaration of racing around an F1 track. Not only did the girls meet with expert drivers and learn all the tips and tricks of F1 racing, they also got a taste of competing for a podium finish. Taking on a 15-lap super kart race, Sonia R from Year 12 took out pole position and was crowned our first-ever MGG Motorsport Champion. Congratulations Sonia and the girls who took part - we can’t wait for round 2! 🏁🏎️ #MentoneGirlsGrammar

On Monday, in recognition of Reconciliation Week, Deputy Principal, Head of Senior School, Mrs Adem, and Year 10 students attended a flag raising and welcoming ceremony at the Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place. “Today, we were honoured to be part of a smoking ceremony and hear a didgeridoo performance; we learnt about how Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about the culture and history of Indigenous Australians and how we can do our part to achieve reconciliation in Australia.”- Nicolette Hilaris “As we learnt on our camp to Central Australia, a smoking ceremony cleanses and protects from evil spirits. Today, we learnt that this week nationally commemorates First Nations people’s connection to Country, and is particularly prominent this year as we head up to the referendum to add an Indigenous Voice to parliament. Overall, it was an honour to attend and the ceremony ended with the raising of the Aboriginal, Australian and Torres Strait Islander flags together.”- Amelie Smith #MentoneGirlsGrammar #KnownSeenHeard #FemaleEmpowerment

The Aerobics Dance and Glee Squad competed on Saturday at Doncaster in the State finals competition for Primary Dance, Secondary Glee, and Aerobics Dance and Glee audition sections. It was a high standard of competition and top rankings were not easily won. Despite the tough competition, our squad came away with great results: nine (9) Gold, five (5) Silver, and three (3) Bronze medals. Our Junior School Dance team, 'Trick or Treat', qualified for Nationals, as did our soloists Helen, Claire, and Erica in Lyrical Solo and Aerobics auditions. In the Senior School, our Glee team qualified for Nationals in Adelaide in both of their routines as well as another 6 students across 12 Aero/Dance/Glee routines. Shout out to Mali A (Year 12), who achieved the highest score of the day with 91 points for her downtempo Glee solo. This week sees our Aerobics and Dance teams take the stage at Rowville alongside the Secondary Dance Soloists from Friday to Sunday. We wish them all the best as they give it their all and we are so proud of their efforts so far this season. 🤸‍♀️💃🎖️🎤 #MentoneGirlsGrammar #FemaleEmpowerment #KnownSeenHeard
