Just wrapped up the fourth week of our Safe Prom Pledge Campaign 💃 The energy and enthusiasm of the Riverside, Wyoming Valley West, Dunmore, and Pittston High Schools students was infectious! The mock crash demonstration by the Pittston Area students and community also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of responsible decision-making while driving.
On Wednesday, April 24, we completed our Mock Crash. Many people were involved in this huge endeavor! All Annandale juniors and seniors witnessed the re-enactment of a two car motor vehicle crash involving a distracted driver and the consequences of not wearing a seatbelt. An accident like this would be truly be a LIFE CHANGING event for all involved. It is our hope that this simulation showed students the importance of using seatbelts, while also bringing attention to the consequences of distracted and impaired driving. We also believe this program helps civilians understand the services provided to our communities by law enforcement, fire and rescue, and EMS. We hope this will help strengthen our resolve to make the right choice before getting behind the wheel. Currently, we plan to bring this program back every two years, so every Annandale High Schooler will have the opportunity take part. Yesterday's mock crash at Butler High School, a collaborative effort of city and county agencies, was one of the best we have witnessed. In this staged portrayal of a post-prom drunk driving accident, students and participants always do an excellent job, but there were elements to this one that will stick with us. The student actors were so effective in their vocal performances that a few of our medics had to pause and do a reality check. "How did she know to use those words?" Kyle Larsen said in debriefing, referring to student Bonnie Roberts' repeated delivery of "I wanna go home". Chills. As always, our ambulance crew and other hospital employees who helped with the event really enjoyed engaging with the students during the pre-event makeup and prep session in the emergency room at the hospital. Today we’re sharing a couple of images from the PeaceHealth Distracted and Impaired Driving Drill at Meridian High School back in May. This was an educational event that brought together hospital, EMS and law enforcement agencies to emphasize the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. Students were surveyed after the drill, which included mock crashes, simulated life-threatening injuries, field sobriety tests, and arrests. Ninety percent of respondents said they would not drive distracted after attending the assembly, and over ninety-five percent said they would not drive impaired. Survey results were anonymous. Saving lives starts with prevention and we’re thrilled to see that so many students were affected by the information they received at this event. Last week, we hosted a mock DUI for the seniors at Kentlake High School, with help from Puget Sound Fire, Black Diamond Police Department & Tri-Med Ambulance. Kentlake students acted as victims of a drunk driving fatality DUI crash, firefighters used the jaws of life to extract victims, the ambulance transported patients in need of life saving care at a hospital, police performed a sobriety test & subsequently arrested the suspected drunk driver, as students watched the mock crash unfold. We hope this event serves as a reminder to the students, the dangers of drinking & driving. The Mock DUI event is a success if it stops even just one student from getting behind the wheel, or being a passenger of someone has been drinking. Headed into prom and graduation season, Colchester High School hosted a mock crash event for 11th and 12th graders as part of their "Make Good Choices" campaign for students. With two damaged cars, student and faculty actors, and dozens of real first responders, this event created a realistic scenario of what can happen when someone drives under the influence and/or is distracted. Hundreds of students watched as the 911 call was made, emergency crews arrived on the scene, EMT crews worked to identify injuries, firefighters used heavy equipment to rescue passengers, officers performed dexterity tests on the driver, and the worst-call-ever was made to the home of unsuspecting parents to tell them their daughter wasn't coming home. The purpose of this event is not to shock or traumatize students but to demonstrate, in a realistic way, how a community may be impacted by such tragic events. We hope today's mock crash event showed our Lakers how much their safety and well-being mean to their family, friends, teachers, first responders, and fellow community members. Thank you to our students for being an exceptional and respectful audience and to our town's first responders who made this event so impactful. Here’s what I learned today: your parents, have a lot of decisions to make when you decide to drink and drive. And every 15 minutes there is someone that dies for m driving under intoxication. Around the school, we had people dress up as “ghosts” and they had a tag around their neck saying how they died. Don’t be the person that has to live with Those consequences. Don’t drink and drive. You’ll ruin not only your life, but those around you, those involved, your friends, your family. Don’t text and drive, don’t pass in a no-passing lane, don’t drink and drive, and don’t get in the car with someone who has been drinking. Please check on those you love, make sure they’re okay. There are people that DO care and DO want to help. Todays mock crash, and lesson following should’ve taught a lot of us the reality of our decisions. On Wednesday morning, high school seniors from David Crockett and Daniel Boone high schools gathered at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray for the 13th annual Prom Promise — an event where first responders simulate a response to a fatal car crash on prom night in order to urge students to make safe and responsible decisions. (WCTV) - Over 100 volunteers and over 40 different agencies and organizations participated in Tallahassee International Airport’s mock plane crash exercise. Deputy Director of Aviation Jim Durwin said the exercise gives community partners hands-on experience in their role responding to an aviation disaster at TLH. “We staged some equipment on scene here but timed it out so that it would make sense from the exercise scenario standpoint,” Durwin said. The airport’s emergency plan spells out the different responsibilities of agencies like Tallahassee Fire, Leon County EMS, the Tallahassee Police Department, and the Red Cross in the event of a crash. “The purpose of today was to identify areas of improvement so that we can make adjustments to our plan and ensure that we’re ready to respond,” Durwin said. Thursday’s exercise went over the scenario of a 737 crash, featuring a training simulator that provided realistic training to groups like the fire department working against a propane source while trying to rescue mock passengers. “The teamwork was great,” Durwin said. “Just like any incident, we always see issues with communication, and we always work to make sure we pass the right information to the right people and have the best response possible.” On the scene as well in disasters such as a plane crash is the Red Cross of North Florida. Gary Pelletier, senior disaster program manager, said once the exercise began, their organization set up their family assistance center. In the case of a plane crash, Pelletier said the Red Cross would be on scene to provide mental, spiritual, and emotional health services to clients. He said the scenario also gives their volunteers valuable hands-on training in disaster response and relief. Durwin said after the simulation exercise, the groups were able to discuss areas for improvement as well as highlights from the training.

Yesterday’s road trip to Gladstone to present to secondary students at Gladstone and Jamestown High Schools. The day started with an emergency services mock crash demonstration. I have now watched a few of these and it never gets easier as it is very similar to my crash and how I was cut from my car. The day ended with sharing my story to the students. It was a powerful presentation with students engaging and asking a lot of questions on road safety.

MONROE — In a real-life demonstration Thursday, two crumpled sedans were towed onto a parking lot outside of St. Mary Catholic Central High School to participate in a mock drunk driving dramatization put on by the Student Prevention Leadership Team in coordination with local response teams. 1 ) Students at St. Mary Catholic Central high school watch paramedics and firemen work during a mock crash put on by the Student Prevention Leadership Team (SPLT), a group against substance abuse, in Monroe, Michigan on Thursday April 21, 2022. Students at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School were presented with a mock-fatal crash this morning in front of the school to demonstrate the consequences of impaired driving ahead of the Senior Prom scheduled for the end of May. The presentation was a joint collaboration between the school's Students Against Destructive Decisions group, Whitman Police Department, Whitman Fire/Rescue, Hanson Police Department, Hanson Fire-Rescue, Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. During the demonstration students were shown the aftermath of a crash between two groups of students that had left a party where they were drinking and the response by first responders that included firefighters using the Jaws of Life to cut one of the "victims" from the car. A Boston MedFlight helicopter also landed at the school as part of the demonstration to transport one of the "seriously injured" students to the hospital. Students also watched as one or their fellow classmates, who was "killed" in the crash, was removed and taken away in a hearse while the "driver" of one of the vehicles was given several field sobriety tests before being placed "under arrest" and taken away in a police cruiser.
