On April 26, in a school-wide assembly, we celebrated our students gifted in the musical and visual arts. The LHS Choir, directed by Mr. Scriber, performed the songs, "When We Were Young" and "Cups." Immediately following the performance, Art Honor Society advisor Mrs. Lagarde recognized our District Literary Rally art placers and inducted three new members into the Lutheran High Chapter of the National Art Honor Society. The NAHS was established in 1978 by the National Art Education Association to inspire and recognize students who have shown outstanding ability and interest in art. NAHS strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. Current Art Honor Society members assisted with the induction ceremony and presented the membership certificates and society gifts. This week’s Feature Friday student is @sunyyless Hayley Yuenger. Hayley is a junior at Winter’s Mill High School and a member of the Baking & Pastry Program. At Winter’s Mill High School, she is a member of the National Art Honor Society and is on the outdoor Track & Field team. At Career & Tech, Hayley states, “My favorite part of the Baking & Pastry Program is the fun we have in the hands-on learning. I feel like I never want to go back to a regular classroom setting again!” Baking & Pastry instructor, Brittany Koch says, “Hayley is an amazing student; she is eager to learn as much as she can both in the kitchen as well as the classroom. She puts 110% into every product she makes and strives to do everything to the best of her ability. I am excited to watch her skills grow and see what she’s able to create.” Hayley currently works at Players Fun Zone in Westminster. When she is not working or in school, Hayley enjoys photography, going on ski trips with her family, playing with her dog Kita, and being an avid reader. After graduation, Hayley plans to attend a baking school and hopes to own her own business. Best of luck, Hayley. Wound makeup warning! Today was the mock crash, which is staged by local first responders and CHS. The mock crash presentation is set up the week of prom to remind students of the dangers of driving impaired. Last week, the Crean Lutheran High School Chapter of the #nationalarthonorsociety hosted an en plein air painting workshop and field trip at the Newport Beach Civic Center Park and Sculpture Gardens! What is “en plein air” painting? The French term means out of doors and refers to the practice of painting entire finished pictures outside. The popularity of en plein air painting increased in the late 19th century with the introduction of portable paint. “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
