Thank you, sponsors—you made this possible! After his father passed away, Abrham* assumed he would have to drop out of school and begin working to help provide for his single mother and three siblings. Fearful he would never graduate, Abrham prayed God would intervene. Abrham is not alone in this fear. This is the case for far too many children in Ethiopia. Thankfully, God answered Abrham's prayers through someone like you! No longer worried about his school fees, Abrham has continued to advance in school year after year! Because of his sponsor's faithful giving, Abrham is receiving life-changing support and continues to get closer to achieving his dream of becoming a teacher. God desires for all His children to have their needs met, and through sponsorship, you can be the vessel God uses to meet those needs! Would you consider sponsoring a child right now, so they too can remain in the care of their family and have the opportunities Abrham has? With your help, a child in Ethiopia can break through their past trauma and unlock new possibilities for their future. Click the link in our bio to sponsor a child today! *Name and photo changed to protect privacy.

Sadly, Zemenay doesn't have much longer before she's forced to drop out to support her family, putting not only her education but her dreams and her entire future at risk. Without access to an education and family-strengthening resources, the cycle of generational poverty, homelessness, and even abuse is repeated in the lives of children like Zemenay. For $40 a month, you can unlock new possibilities for Zemenay's future and help make her dream a reality 🥼🩺 Click the link in our bio to learn more and sponsor Zemenay or another child today!

One of our partners in Colombia recently initiated a collaboration with local schools to educate teachers on the principles of trauma-informed care. Many of the children in these communities have experienced abuse, homelessness, starvation, and more. And often, the child who has experienced the most pain is the same child who "acts out" and "gets in trouble." The last 30+ years of working to disrupt trauma have shown us that deep-seated trauma often presents itself through challenging behaviors. Because of this, we know that the child "causing problems" is not a "bad kid"; they're just hurting. And they need someone to meet them and care for them wherever they are right now. By equipping and strengthening teachers' ability to see the needs behind the behavior, we are praying God will work through the Holy Spirit to unlock healing from the trauma they've experienced.

You helped Belay* learn her true worth in Jesus and reunite with her loving family! Belay left home at a young age hoping to find a job to help provide for her family, but her employer’s home was one of abuse and anger. Belay spent years always afraid of the next attack. In early 2023, Belay ran away from the abuse and was intercepted by police, who referred her to the AGCI & Tim Tebow Foundation House of Hope in Ethiopia. You can imagine the walls Belay put up to protect herself. Thankfully, this new home changed Belay’s life. All Belay prayed for since leaving home was for hope. She missed her family. And she desperately needed someone to remind her that God had more in store for her life. Belay lived in the House of Hope for nearly a year, where she received love and support. Our team worked diligently to track down Belay’s roots and began to prepare her family for reunification. We are thrilled to share Belay was reunited with her family last month! Thanks to your support, Belay is home with her grandparents and brother, and she knows the hope of the Gospel! Belay says, “I know who Jesus is and what He has done for me. I will always be in your debt in this regard, and for so much more, so thank you.” *Name changed to protect privacy

No child should be alone. Children who have already experienced significant trauma and neglect lack the quality of care they need without loving caregivers. If caregivers don't show a child the love they need, the child may as well be alone. We're working with caregivers around the world to show children without families the love of Jesus. We take a unique approach by helping caregivers to heal from their own traumas so they can better care for children in institutions–because healed people heal people.

Last year, 56 girls were successfully reunified with safe and prepared families through the House of Hope in Ethiopia! These girls enter our care after being trafficked, exploited, abused, and homeless. Through the hard work of trauma-informed care, those same girls journey to find redemption, hope, and love. Unfortunately, thousands of young girls' stories in Ethiopia begin this way, but not all have the same hopeful outcome. Every day there are more girls trapped in this cycle who are scared, alone, and separated from family. These girls have nowhere to turn. By giving to the House of Hope, more girls can experience healing through reunification! Click the link in our bio to make a gift today.

Barely 10 years old, Layla* left her town to live with her aunt, believing she would have the opportunity to get a job and help support her family back home. Tragically, Layla's aunt began abusing her. In an attempt to protect herself, Layla ran away, facing the new danger of homelessness on the streets of Addis Ababa. Thankfully, when Layla encountered police while living on the streets, she was admitted to the AGCI & the Tim Tebow Foundation House of Hope. Layla was rightfully angry: angry that she had left her home and youth behind for an empty promise, angry that she had experienced abuse at the hands of a trusted family member, and angry that her life hadn't looked at all what it should have. Layla was aggressive, combative, and rude—but that didn't stop House of Hope staff from loving her and fiercely advocating for her. One day, Layla asked for prayer during Bible study. After three weeks of the special mothers covering Layla in prayer, there was a breakthrough: Layla began praying to God on her own! God transformed Layla deep to her core, and her angry behaviors began to melt away. Layla's softened heart led her to begin asking staff for their help in locating her family. And after five months of living in the home, our team located Layla's family and reunified Layla with her mother! So many girls still long for reunification. And it is our prayer that all of them will one day get to experience the same joy Layla has. We know God intentionally crafted families, and we hold onto the promise that He has a plan for all these precious girls that is greater than anything we could ever imagine. *Name changed to protect privacy.

Sold by a neighbor. Abused as a house servant. Homeless on the streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Obsen* dreamed of a life different from her own, where adults could be trusted, and she had her family again. Obsen was guarded. After the trauma she had faced it was just too risky to grow close to someone who could let her down again. But our team at the AGCI & the Tim Tebow Foundation House of Hope stood beside her, again and again, until one day her walls came tumbling down. Obsen's journey to healing finally began. As she regained her confidence and faith, our team began the careful work of locating Obsen's family. After three months, Obsen, described by staff as a "whole new girl," was reunified with her family. She once was lost, but now she's found. Too many girls like Obsen end up sold, abused, and homeless. We're determined to stand up for these girls. We will do all we can to unlock healing, one reunification at a time. *Name changed to protect privacy.

Recently I joined the staff of the global nonprofit Children International (aka CI) to serve as the Global Director of External Communications. Just 3 weeks into my new role, I had an opportunity to travel with 8 colleagues to Colombia. Since words won’t suffice, I hope these images convey, in some small way, the mutual joy and gratitude felt by all of us this week to connect as members of the CI family. These young people repeatedly offered thanks for consistent educational support, access to health care, life skills exposure, and positive role models who pour into them, when the lure of gangs, giving up on life, and other ills threaten to pull them off track. They expressed how much it has meant to exchange letters with people who have sponsored them with monthly contributions since ages 3, 4 or 5. They described how the opportunity to receive Children International scholarships that fund job training has allowed them to dream. Before we departed, one of the teenagers thanked us for our work by declaring: “You are a grain of sand that helps us have better lives.” I left their presence knowing they are more than their circumstances. They are eager to learn, grow and be the first generation to help their families thrive. I left Colombia all the more convinced that it takes just one person to impact a life. By changing the narrative for one, we are rewriting the story for many. @children #LifeUntapped #MultiplyGood #childandyouthdevelopment #INGO #childreninternational #thepowerofone

Marisol* didn't have access to medical care early in her adulthood. Pregnant and struggling to provide for her growing family, she wasn't able to receive the prenatal care she needed. When Jorge* was born, he faced recurrent respiratory illnesses, and when he was just three years old, he was required to have surgery. His medical trauma only continued when, last year, a fall landed him in the hospital for 15 days. Jorge's medical history was so traumatizing it affected his behavior. When Marisol began to seek help for Jorge, she found our free counseling services in Colombia. When our team first met Jorge, he was restless and insecure. He struggled to do tasks without an adult’s help. Through God's redemptive work in Jorge's therapy sessions, we have seen his confidence grow and his behaviors decrease. Because of speech therapy, he can now express his thoughts so others understand him. He has also improved in his ability to concentrate, follow verbal instructions, and read and write. Marisol has also learned to advocate for her son by seeking new resources and encouraging his confidence and self-esteem. We are so proud of how far Jorge has come and hopeful for what God has planned for his life! *Names and photo changed to protect privacy.

At the AGCI & the Tim Tebow Foundation House of Hope in Ethiopia, girls who had previously been living on the streets without family receive important therapies and, whenever possible, are reunified with their loving families. This intervention stops trauma in its tracks and unlocks a brighter future for the girls served. Check out this post to learn some of the ways we provide life-changing services to one of Ethiopia's most vulnerable populations!

When we first met Luisa* and Oscar* in Guatemala, they were living in a household marred by domestic violence. As we got to know these two siblings, we quickly recognized how the trauma they were enduring at home was having a profound impact on their behavior. Influenced by the abusive actions he witnessed from his father, Oscar began mistreating Luisa, mirroring the same hurtful behaviors his mother endured. Meanwhile, Luisa's distressing environment caused her to be immensely reserved and absent-minded. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, our country partners in Guatemala immediately stepped in and began to walk with these siblings and their mother to help them find hope and healing. The transformation has been remarkable! Oscar has undergone a profound change—he now not only understands it is inappropriate to mistreat his sister, but he also believes in the importance of respecting all women. His interactions with his sister and mother have shifted dramatically, as he now treats them with love and respect! As for Luisa, she has emerged from her shell in radiant ways! She has begun to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally, and we have seen her become more outgoing. We've received encouraging reports from their mother that the domestic violence she once endured has ceased, and the family is on a continued path of healing and reconciliation! Empowered by her newfound strength, Luisa and Oscar's mom has taken the initiative to put an end to this cycle of abuse for the sake of herself and her children! *Names and photo changes to protect privacy.

Recently, AGCI hosted our very first Trust-Based Relational Intervention® practitioner training in Ethiopia! We had 45 leaders from Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Lebanon in the same room, building relationships through a shared passion for transforming how we care for children and each other. Our incredible team and leaders in Ethiopia are bringing hope to thousands of lives as they change systems and stand in the gap for children and families around the world. This training is just the beginning of what is sure to be a movement across Africa, and we're praising God to be a part of it!
