Many of you will be decorating eggs for Easter this weekend. But did you know that eggs can range in size from the ostrich egg shown on the left to the hummingbird egg shown on the right (US quarter for scale)? You would need a pretty small paintbrush to decorate a hummingbird egg! #MuseumofRiverside #ILoveRiverside #NaturalHistory #Riversidenaturalhistory #spring #spring2024 #nature #naturelab #naturephotography #Riverside #California #native #100eventsfor100years #MuseumofRiversideturns100

Spring is springing! Time has sprung forward! And the Museum’s live collection is coming out of brumation! Our chuckwallas are still huddling for warmth but they are beginning to feed and become more active. We feed them a mix of dried vegetation with fresh wildflower petals and roughage. #MuseumofRiverside #ILoveRiverside #NaturalHistory #Riversidenaturalhistory #Herps #reptiles #chuckwalla #chuckwallas #spring #spring2024 #sunbathing #wildlife #reptilebehavior #nature #springwildlife #naturelab #bffs #naturephotography #chillin #sunlight #petals #flowers #hugs #chucks #desert #Riverside #California #native #100eventsfor100years #MuseumofRiversideturns100

Swipe for a sneak peak but pictures just don't do it justice! Currently gracing Mrs. Bettner's bed is a early 19th-century patchwork quilt. It has a large single six-pointed star at its center with smaller six-pointed stars along the border. This design is rarer than the eight-pointed star and more accurately reflects the taste of Catharine Bettner’s social status. The quiltmaker used ninety-five different fabrics to create this masterpiece, some of which were printed around 1810. We will be celebrating National Quilting Day with FREE crafts on the lawn and a special visit from the quilters of Quilts of Valor. Join us Sunday, March 17th, from 12-3 p.m. and don't forget to visit Heritage House to see this beautiful piece for yourself!
