The idea behind my kid’s book was to give parents a starting point for conversations about guns in everyday life and responsible gun ownership. - “My Daddy has a Gun... and my Mommy does too!” is written from the point of view of a young child who is thinking about all the people in her world who have guns for fun, sport, protection or as part of their jobs. - Many kids only see guns as threatening objects in the hands of “bad guys”... that can create both an unhealthy fear and a fundamental misunderstanding of their place in our culture and world. - This morning, @youngladypincus grabbed a copy from the shelf for the first time in months and announced that is was “reading time”. Throughout my life, the topic of firearms and children has come up a lot. Especially now that I work with the mental health community. Books like these are important because in todays court of public opinion....firearms and those who use them take a lot of heat. There is nothing wrong with a child learning about firearms from a young age....there is nothing wrong with a healthy fascination of firearms at a young age...especially when firearms play such a big role in everyday life. .
