I began to miss the ritual of it all. The Friday or Saturday morning plan to wash and set my hair—pick a couple of good movies and post up with my tools and get it done. Because like my mother, I taught myself on my own head. And also like her, because of disappointment in others I had an awakening and awareness to my own ability. So here, in my Mama’s house when I could get my hands free over the course of 2-3 days, I twisted it up—parted, sectioned, working through the third eye, always starting from the back, up the sides, finishing with the crown 👸🏾 Putting myself to sleep 😆 Shout out to all the women and girls—ranging from ancestors to influencers—who serve inspiration on a daily with all the ingenuity and innovation of beautifying and caring for our hair.
