🙏🏼@maria_gordon_illustration Good morning, Children of the Sun! 🌞 This lady rests now overseas, but there are available prints - link in bio 💫 Just as Autumn evokes feelings of melancholy due to the withering and old age of the cycle, relating to the sunset of the earth, the arrival of winter represents the time of darkness. It's the midnight of the earth, the time when the withered finally dies, while the seed germinates waiting to bloom in spring. This winter ambivalence of transit in which death gives way to a new life is the mystical turning point, the trascendence. Darkness and light cross their paths and look at eachother's magical faces. The month of the winter solstice marks the birth of the solar gods, such as Mithras, Sol Invictus, or Christ. This moment is considered as "The gate of the gods", the access to the kingdom of light, which will now start to ascend until it reaches it's zenith on the summer solstice. For us, it's a time of sacrifice, abundance and libation as a sign of gratitude. However, I like to think that despite all this celebration and revelry, silence reigns in the forest.The dew freezes, the burrows throb, and some animals wander through the forest without making a sound. The mosses are at their best, forming tapestries on the ground and the trunks of large trees, helping to maintain the humidity of the forest and tucking the creatures in. And there is no reason not to be able to celebrate It all -the still beauty of the deep forest, the birth of Christ, and the rise of the new Sun-, since they all symbolize the mystical passage from death to life.
