Saturday Reflection on last night’s date night, @ippindining_official , a new Japanese eatery in the West Village, West End. I was a bit disappointed that there was no omakase menu, & the a la carte menu is as expected, typical Japanese dishes. However, the food was delicious; especially the snow crab chawanmushi, so delicate with a slight bitterness from the “Japanese nut” (so I was told). I was also excited about the Brussel sprouts tempura (yeah Brussel sprouts), the coating was light with a hint of Japanese curry powder, & cooked al dente (my highlight). The Ippin Signature 3 consists of Tuna Toro, Barramundi Wasabi Leaf (my fav) & Wagyu Tartare (1st photo). The Miyazaki Wagyu A5 was a tad bit of disappointment, although soft, there was slight chewiness, but the flavour was good (I blamed the fact that we recently had such great A5 in Japan). Another 𝙉𝙀𝙒 BBQ Skewer meat concept from @butakizokuofficial by the peeps from @gochiso.shokudo debuts today 18 April 2023. First of all, customers have to order a compulsory Cover Charge (sounds similar to True Cost's concept but cheaper) of 6.00 for a Juice of choice plus a choice of Starter(spinach, kimchi, french fries, japanese cucumber, mixed salad or edamame) or 10.00 if you prefer Alcohol(Highball). We went for their Passionfruit (left), Mango (right) Juice. Colour looked somewhat similar, should have picked Blueberry instead 😅 For Starters, got the Kimchi & Fries. For the Yakitori, decided to choose 2 for taste test since we were told it's quite "filling". Got the Cheese Series of Garlic Cheese 3.50 & for the Chicken Series, got the Mentaiko 3.50 We were hoping the flavours of the sauces layered on top could be slightly more pronouce. There's the Premium Iberico Pork series(from Gochiso 3.80 - 4.80), Mushroom Series(wrapped around Bacon 3.80) & the Assorted Series(2.00 - 3.50). No beef, just Chicken & Pork). BBQ Onigiri? 4.00 Choose from Salmon & Char Siew. Got the latter since it's a Buta joint 🤭 Very crispy exterior but flavours fell flat within & meat portion too minced up for us to identify it as Char Siew. Almost felt like eating the crispy burnt base of a Claypot Rice. The gravy painted on top wasn't sweet although we don't mind the extra sweetness. Both Gochiso & Buta Kizoku are side by side & they took over a former Meat BBQ's place. Happy eating & i'll see ya at the next new place... Not sponsored. Love the bright well litted spacious layout that had Bari Bari Japanese vibe to it. Check out the Samurai figure standing on the left as you enter the 5 days old Japanese restaurant. And the lengthy wall mural behind the Samurai with 2 "Samurai" holding onto their bowl of Ramen. Had their light Shoyu broth Ramen(Ajitama) which i missed so much. Thick cha shu paired with bamboo shoots, lava egg.... drooling... Also ordered an extra Terimayo Chashu Rice.
