Working with the brilliant Kathleen Marshall, watching Sutton create her Tony Award-winning performance, joking with Joel Grey, and building lifelong friendships were just a few of the many gifts I got from this show. The biggest gift of all, however, was an afternoon in December when I got the call from our Production Stage Manager that I would be going on as Reno Sweeney that evening. I was a “late addition” cover and was NEVER supposed to go on…but that night, I took the final bow on a Broadway stage. NORTH COAST THEATRE FESTIVAL CAST ANNOUNCEMENT: Here is your official cast for our production of Ghost Soldiers! We are so excited to bring this Panowski Playwriting competition winner to the Black Box Theatre this summer running May 9-11. NMU and North Coast Theatre Festival are excited to announce the official cast of this year's world-premiere play, Ghost Soldiers. The play is written by and will be directed by Keli Crawford-Truckey. Ghost Soldiers tells the story of the soldiers who were a part of the "Polar Bear Expedition" during World War I. The action jumps back and forth between brief vignettes between the 1930s, ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, '70s, and World War I (specifically 1918-1919). Inspired by the Grandfather of NMU professors Paul and Dan Truckey, as well as other Michiganders who entered WWI looking to find part of themselves through their service as soldiers. Ghost Soldiers is a play that follows 6 young men who hoped to join the US forces in Europe, only to find themselves face to face with the Bolsheviks in frozen Northern Russia - a story about self identity, self acceptance, warfare, and tyranny. MEET THE ARTISTIC LEADERSHIP OF EISENHOWER DANCE DETROIT ✨ Eisenhower Dance Detroit Artistic Director, Stephanie Pizzo, joined the company as a founding member in 1991. At various points in her dance career with EDD, she served as Resident Choreographer, Associate Artistic Director, and Co-Artistic Director. Ms. Pizzo now leads the company into her 7th season as Artistic Director. She focuses on collaborating with the highest quality national and international artists and creating strong ties within the metro Detroit community through the art of dance. MEET THE ARTISTIC STAFF OF CO/LAB DANCE COMPANY!🦚 Karina Johnson (Artistic Director & Choreographer) started ballet at the age of four in Irvine, California, and was trained by such accomplished teachers as Charles Maple, Amanda McKerrow, and John Gardner from American Ballet Theatre, as well as Evelyn Cisneros from San Francisco Ballet. She attended ABT, Boston Ballet, and American Academy of Ballet summer intensives throughout her years of training, as well as competed in the Youth of America Grand Prix competition for five consecutive years. Starting in 2007, Karina worked on a degree at The University of Utah as well as guested with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s The Nutcracker for three years. In her senior year of college, she became a trainee with Ballet West, performing as a supplemental corps de ballet dancer. Karina graduated in 2010 with a BFA in Ballet, and afterwards spent a year as an apprentice at Smuin Ballet in San Francisco before moving to join the Sacramento Ballet. There she had the privilege of performing in such renowned ballets as Ron Cunningham’s The Great Gatsby, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Carmina Burana, Rite of Spring, Cinderella, and The Firebird, as well as Trey McIntyre’s Wild Sweet Love, and George Balanchine’s Western Symphony, Who Cares?, Rubies, and the First Regiment Lead in Stars and Stripes... Join us before NMU Theatre & Dance’s CO/LAB performance for an hour of fun, hands-on activities at the NMU TD Kids - Carnival of the Animals Experience! Children of all ages are invited to join us for an engaging and educational workshop experience on Saturday, February 3 from 10-11:15 am. The workshop will introduce youth to the Theatre and Dance’s Co/Lab performance taking place at 1 pm that day in the Forest Roberts Theatre. This workshop aims to provide an entry into the world of dance and theatre arts. During the workshop, children will take part in a variety of hands-on activities, learn about the production, and be taught a section of choreography by our CO/LAB performers. Workshop stations will be set up throughout the Forest Roberts Theatre lobby, offering opportunities for youth to engage in mask decorating, photo ops with our performers, and play a variety of carnival-style games. These activities are designed to foster a unique and creative connection to the production. No prior dance, music, or theatre background is required for the workshop as we welcome everyone to experience the joy of dance and theatre arts. MEET THE ARTISTIC TEAM OF CLYBOURNE PARK!🏘 Paul Truckey (Director) Paul has been a member of the NMU Theatre and Dance faculty since 2003. He earned his M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Before starting at NMU, he had an extensive career as a professional performer in Broadway, regional, and national touring productions. Selected professional acting credits include Les Miserables’ (Original Broadway Company and National Tour), Rockland: The Opera (World Premier, Rozsa Center), Utah! (World Premier, at Tuacahn Amphitheatre), Closer Than Ever (Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts). At NMU, he serves as the Head of BFA in Musical Theatre Performance and teaches a wide range of classes from performance to directing to dramatic literature. Paul has directed over 30 productions at NMU. He has also co/led numerous study abroad trips with NMU students to London, Paris, Scotland, and New York City field Studies. His Broadway credits include Little Shop of Horrors and the original cast of Spamalot; Off Broadway includes Blue Man Group ‘Tubes’, De La Guarda, Two Point Oh and the original ‘john’ in john & jen among many others. Around the country, James has played dozens of leading roles from Professor Higgins to Hamlet.
