Did you raise your babies with a Nanny dog? Willow is 2.5 yrs old and this is her first baby. She’s extremely sensitive to her cries and comes running to make sure she’s okay. And today, Willow alerted me when Everett put himself in danger and I was able to help him faster because of her signaling. I may get annoyed with her constantly following me and needing to go outside 50x a day for 1 minute at a time like she’s working security for us, but she is a great dog and for the record, I love her. November 23, Giving Thanks Day: Two years ago, I wasn’t a dog person, ever, except with a few, and they know who they are :-) And then one cold and drizzly morning, Luga, short for Pitaluga, decided to find us. Gabi was instantly in love, and I was intensely fearful of the disruption she might create along our delicate path of healing. After two weeks of deep resistance, I took a leap, a leap of faith in divine synchronicity. Luga… She offers me so much, teaches me so well, gives me second chance, upon second chance, fills me with joy, challenges my fatherness and humanness, and loves me unconditionally. We’ve spent many walks discussing love and happiness, and I understand her belief to be that all we really need is to eat, sleep, and play. So I wonder, what it might it look like to intentionally nourish, and purposefully rest, and in everything else, everything else, seek and foster the joy and togetherness of play. On request, Billy stays outside the studio during a class because I understand and respect that some people are dog phobic or sensitive to loud noises. The week is almost over and it didn’t pan out the way I hoped. My son who is currently in Turkey was supposed visit us but instead he was attacked by stray dogs, bitten and have to have 3 courses of Rabies injections🥲So grateful that he is ok and rescued by kind neighbours. Regardless of appearances, I maintain that I am not a “dog person”, but when @livetherescuelife posted this little guys’s pic the night before my anniversary, I told Brandon, “I gotta have that dog.” . In case it was some weird emotional impulse, I gave it a day, and then sent a message to find out more about him. . I found out he was bound for @acadianaanimalaid so I filled out an application. Long story short—the day before Brandon leaves for retreat in Houston, he drove down to Lafayette, did all the adoption things, picked him up, and despite being impeded by wildfires in Grant Parish, delivered him to me in time to eat dinner, pack, and get a few hours of sleep. #supermanbrandon . I’ve never really been a dog person. When I was about 15, I went to Prince Edward Island to visit my maternal grandmother (who was a real See You Next Tuesday, but that’s another story….). The Canadian kids didn’t have video games or lots of toys or radios or really any distractions, they mostly just played outside with sticks and rocks. Not exactly the summer of my dreams. They had this ugly black dog with a significant underbite that followed them around everywhere. His lower lip and buck teeth stuck out way beyond his upper jaw. He was very friendly with the kids, and was constantly jumping on them and licking their faces. Even back then I wasn’t a big dog fan, so I never let him lick mine. One extremely hot summer day, not too long after I arrived, we were playing down by the fishing docks, and the dog was with us. He got an odd look in his eye, and his knees started wobbling. Right on the Fishermens dock, he let out a steaming pile of dog crap that was immediately set upon by dozens of horseflies. The dog turned around and started barking at them, chasing them away. We hated horseflies, so I thought this was a quite neat trick that they trained him to do. But - he was only chasing them away because he didn’t want the flies disturbing his snack. After they flew off, he gave a couple of quick sniffs of the turd he dropped on the sidewalk, then licked the pavement clean. I mean if I got down on my hands and knees with a brush and some Boraxo, I couldn’t have gotten that concrete any cleaner. After he was done, he licked his chops like someone had just given him some prime rib. A few minutes after that, he ran up to the kids playing, started chasing them, leaping through the air, barking, and, of course, licking their faces. This is the Oseberg Wagon, dating from before 800AD and discovered at the Oseberg Ship grave archeological site in Vestfold Norway.
