Member Spotlight: “I’m Sarah Stippich, and I’m so grateful and proud to be a member of Outlaw Arts. By day, I’m an elementary school librarian. I grew to love pottery when I was in high school and was given free reign of the art room during study halls. Fast forward to spring of 2020 when I finished a refresher course from Cornelia, right as the world was shutting down due to Covid. The studio served as a form of connection and, to be honest, therapy for me through the next few years. Coming to the studio gave me an outlet for creativity, a peaceful space and a connection to community. To this day, I love spending time there on weekends and in the summer, creating next to kind, interesting, supportive people who I learn so much from. I always leave with new ideas, especially for cool new glaze combinations. I’ve taught a few beginner wheel classes with students ranging from teens to adults. It feels great to be able to introduce others to something I love so much. In the studio, I create almost solely on the wheel (handbuilding is still a bit of a mystery to me) and most of my work is functional - mugs, bowls, vases, a few plates. I long to make BIG pieces... the feeling of smacking down a huge mound of clay on the wheel, the force of my body centering it, the way my mind clears of every other thought as I try to make it into something well-structured. Today we’ll be covering the Transit app. Pros: - Beautifully displays your different transit options to get to a certain destination, very similar to how google maps works but for transit. - Shows the distance/ route you would need to walk or bike in addition to transit - Has up to the minute accuracy in tracking the arrivals of your bus/train/trolley partially due to live tracking of users using the app - Works in most cities, not just for SEPTA - Collects data for SEPTA with user questions like “how crowded is the vehicle?” - Also shows detailed bike routes complete with safe bike routes and Indigo stations Cons: - To get the FULL functionality of the app you need to pay a monthly fee, but you can still use it well without paying - Doesn’t always have the official cancellations from SEPTA We’ll be covering Google Maps apps next! We had our second annual Sunday of Service today! After an opening time of prayer in the sanctuary, we moved downstairs to continue our worship through service. Our second annual Sunday of Service is coming up on April 21! This is the day we spend most of our worship loving God by loving our neighbors. After a brief opening time in the sanctuary, we will head down to the fellowship hall and make sandwiches for local community fridges and Bethel Presbyterian's food ministry, decorate bags for Meals on Wheels, and assemble hygiene kits for Women Against Abuse.
