How many times have you fallen into this trap? I know I have, several times. I’ve had messages from people saying ‘if only I had a different theme, I could cope with that’. I totally get it…. But we all suffer if we have OCD. None of it is fun. None of it is easy. You might find a different theme easier to dismiss, but then it wouldn’t be much of a disorder for you. It’s not about the theme, it’s all OCD. Whilst there may be more stigma attached to one theme over another, this might bother one person and not another. OCD is tailored to us, to our individual values. It picks on what will bother us the most and it’s all well and good wishing it away or wishing for a different theme but at the end of the day the only way to overcome this disorder is to stare your individual fear down. To own it, to understand that it bothers you because you care about the consequences of the obsession being realised and you want to prevent that at all costs. Humans get thoughts, it isn’t the thoughts per se that are the problem but the significance we give to them, the heavy meanings that we attach to them. I’ve stopped comparing my OCD to other people’s. Stopped wishing it away or wishing for another theme.
