Health benefits of stamina for over 50s. It is vital to build and maintain endurance fitness as we move into our 50s and beyond. A key reason is our increasing risk for developing chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes with age. These are critical health benefits of endurance training for everybody, but extra impetus to stick with it as we get older. Partaking in endurance exercise is also beneficial to mental health โ€“ super important for us over 50s with the added stressors of growing and changing responsibilities. My current featured blog is all about cortisol. You may have heard of a correlation between elevated cortisol levels and accumulation of fat in the abdominal area, and there is research to back this up. This suggests that managing stress, and therefore cortisol levels, may decrease our risks for metabolic disorders like type 2 diabetes which are associated with carrying abdominal fat. My current featured blog is all about cortisol. Our cortisol levels are also affected by exercise. In general, high intensity or prolonged exercise tends to increase cortisol levels. This is because exercise puts stress on the body, which includes the release of cortisol from the adrenal glands. However, regular exercise can also have a beneficial effect on cortisol levels over time. Doing the โ€˜sit and riseโ€™ test. Stand with feet crossed and sit down on the floor into a cross-legged position. Then reverse the process to get up without placing hands or knees on the ground. Whenever Iโ€™m in the market for a new exercise bra, I head off to a store that has a fitting service and get professional help to find the best one for me. When I find a great bra, I record the details somewhere for future online purchases. When a favourite model goes out of production I go back for fitting again, but I make a day of it and have a nice lunch while Iโ€™m out.
