Fitness journey updates ~ I’ve had a small setback with some weight gain, but I’ve learned that this is all about progress & not perfection. In past years, I would have self-sabotaged after eating poorly & just given up. Now, I’m learning to love & forgive myself and make the next day better than the one before. Plus, life wouldn’t be any fun if I never ate chips & salsa! So, it’s ok. I like these videos (even where I see bad form, bc I know now to correct it next time). I love throwing the ball down. That is therapeutic! The calf raises should be so easy, but they’re not. And, I hate the battle ropes, but if @iamcardib says they play a role in her bodacious booty workout, who am I to question that? I’m proud of where I am & excited to see how much better I will be as the adventure continues. I’ve found a home @tprepgym where I feel accepted & not judged. @coach_barbell is patient, but persistent in what I need to do to get stronger & make healthy choices. I’m so grateful for my knee replacement that allows me to get in my 8k+ steps a day and walk with Jesse & @buddy_the_destroyer . Thank you @sarahauer_ for being my role model in being fit & healthy. Thank you @jesse.auer for making me grilled chicken & helping me track my calories & portion my meals. I won’t give up my carbs. He helps me look at every meal with a critical eye in a no-judgment zone. I appreciate your encouragement the most. I hope I can inspire those 50ish women who want to be their best, most authentic selves. They say, “That what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” Ahhh, okay. I don’t feel very strong now. In time….. Scootered a mile in 34+ minutes. Was slow but was some work! I have 6 more days of this pink cast. Pretty much over it. I’m ready to move on. I’m getting antsy. I rode my spin bike yesterday, just to move! Was so slow, my watch didn’t even recognize the ride as exercise (which is fine). So excited for the next chapter of my recovery. It’s still going to suck but not as bad as a month in a non-weight bearing cast. Enjoying a beverage with the dogs. Happy that I got in some intentional movement today. I’m happy (for not being “happy” 🤪). Progress over perfection. For my friends over 50, I had to make some changes, do research, and lots of trial and error. My Thrive 3 steps help but I took it a bit further. Through this entire process, I learned what foods work with my body by consulting with @metabolicnutrition. Once my eating was in line, I started working with @vidal_coaching to figure out hormonal imbalances. It's been a long process, but it's worth it. I am still working on losing a little more fat naturally and keeping as much muscle as possible while doing so. I still walk, workout when I can and decided to get certified as a pilates instructor ( more on that later). We have to keep moving ppl! No matter what! I still do my Thrive 3 steps daily, so I get some protein and vitamins in. It's the easiest part of all this, TBH! Don’t let yourself get discouraged. In the end, only your own mind can reassure you, soothe you, and persuade you to keep going. But remember that #encouragement is not just a matter of flattering words. Encouragement is also the ability to separate yourself from your flaws, to see them clearly, and to remind yourself, “I’m better than that behavior. I don’t need to identify with it.” If you can’t do that, you’ll never be able to trust yourself or be an authority to yourself. The test, always, of whether encouragement or criticism is helpful is whether it leads to more energy and motivation. If it doesn’t, you’re probably taking the situation #personally and need to step back to find a way to be objective about what’s happening. In our culture, we like to find the gray area in everything. We think black-and-white thinking is the root of all evil, and we forget how much evil is done by those who see gray where there is none. Sure, some things in life are gray, but there is always a moment when your mechanisms of self-sabotage come out of the bushes and into the light of day, and if you can’t recognize those mechanisms and confront them as something separate from your sense of self, you’ll never grow. Following on from yesterday's reel about my "why" let's look at the impact of the results from the "why" driving my weight loss but also fueling my body properly. I wanted to break 30 minutes for parkrun by the end of the year. I restarted my Northern parkrun journey in January 2023 with a 55+ minute effort when I was around 115kg and eating badly. Today with a huge amount of support from @julia.plumb I not only broke 30 minutes I absolutely smashed it and took over 2 minutes off my time. Thank you so much. Your support, encouragement and patience means everything. Losing 26kg has helped immensely as I'm not carrying 10 bags of spuds with me every time I run but also ensuring I'm hydrated properly before, during and after the run has been important as well as fueling the body afterwards to help recovery with @herbalife Rebuild Strength and Endurance shake immediately afterwards. Sometimes you find yourself staring straight into the face of your temptation… But a few hours later, you’re SO HAPPY (and proud of yourself) that you walked away. Here’s what happened: I met some girlfriends for coffee, and the pastry case was LOADED with yumminess. And I was hungry. I wanted the chocolate croissant, the cranberry scone, and/or the morning bun. But instead I ordered a veggie/egg scramble. Along side not drinking for the whole of this year I wanted to level up my exercise routine. I really want to include weights as apart from body resistance I do little to strengthen my muscles, I know this is key to longevity and general fitness as I age. I’m still not feeling A1 after Covid so have been trying to be gentle with myself this week and ease myself into a new routine which involve’s exercise every day and weights twice a week. Here’s what I’ve done so far this week, lift club is booked for Sunday 🏋🏻‍♀️ Monday: Rowing. I used to love rowing until I found running but have recently really got back into it. I love that it works out pretty much everything in one hit and I’m going to make this a regular part of my week. Tuesday Morning : Outdoor cycle, or as my husband calls it ‘a pootle’ (he’s hard core) Tuesday Evening: Yoga. My favourite time of the week 🧘 @altrlifetribe class is absolutely phenomenal if I can fit it in I like to go on Thursdays too. Wednesday: Long walk, I would like to be running but still not feeling quite up to it. I LOVE to exercise outside in the mornings, sunrise, up with the birds and time to set myself up for the day ahead. Thursday: Pilates @virginactiveuk it’s an early start but I manage to drag myself out of bed. (I may or may not have my workout clothes on back to front on occasion) Friday Morning: Another cycle to get in that sunshine (I’m taking it when I can) Friday Evening: 20 minutes on the rowing machine and 30mins of light weight reps and kettle bell which gave me the fear for everyone around me😬 #myfitnessgoals #fitnessover50
