I kind of have an obsession with these @paperblanks sketchbooks and journals. It is SO HARD for me to resist them because they’re SO pretty! I bought a couple more today when I have some that I haven’t even drawn or written in yet! 🤦🏻♀️ I try to at least force myself to stick to the smaller ones, but my willpower is not always the strongest. 🤭 I rationalize it by convincing myself they’ll get used at *some* point. It’s not like they’ll go bad like food or I’ll outgrow them like clothing! 😆 The fact that they’re stocked at 2 local markets taunting me every time I go in doesn’t make it easy either! I’m proud I’m still only leaving with the small ones! 😁 Random sketchbook rant over (but I don’t turn away new sketchbooks that are plain either! 😂). Interesting side note. This is my first work in my new Paperblanks journal - the Sketchbook version with 200 gms paper. Please swipe to see a video which shows the gold linework ✨ I was very fortunate to have won this amazing sketchbook recently, thank you again @Paperblanks! ♡ The cover of this journal (and the design on the bookmark in the picture) is called ‘Poetry in Bloom’, this beautiful design was used for ‘The Sensitive Plant and Early Poems’ by Percy Bysshe Shelley and is a celebration of the creative spirit. Since I really love this cover, I decided to let myself get inspired by it and honor the original design. That’s how I came up with this work, a portrait done in graphite pencil combined with a decorative design. I also wanted to try a lot of different mediums at once, to see how the paper would handle it, so I ended up using watercolor, colored pencil and gold acrylic paint - which all worked beautifully! The graphite works amazing on the paper, blending is like a dream on this smooth paper and it’s also easy to erase unwanted graphite(!). Watercolor works well, just keep in mind that you have to work quickly because the paint dries fast and sinks into the paper (the back of the paper is ok, the watercolor doesn’t come through). Applying the gold acrylic paint with a fine brush worked very well, without any problem. I look forward to further filling up this beautiful journal.
